Bootable CD to test real PC specs?
So my friend is getting a second hand PC on Craigslist but he is worried that people might have overclocked the CPU (change the CPU model, etc) or RAM, etc, which could potentially causing long term headaches.
Therefore, I am just wondering if there is any bootable CD that could run some tests to reveal the true specs of the PC without opening up the PC case, and if possible, how good the condition of the HDD as well?
Thanks!

checking the bios isn't an option?
Could the BIOS readings be faked if the CPU is overclocked?
Ahm, overclocking in these days doesn't damage at all the CPUs.
I am pretty sure that any other component will die before the CPU gets killed.
I've bought OC'ed processors and they don't have any problem.
Is better to get worried for faulty RAM, HDD, and even the mobo.
PS: OC isn't bad n_n
Any tools to check that without booting into the OS? The thing is he has like 30 minutes to test out that PC and he doesn't even know what OS is installed on that system, so a bootable CD would be the safest bet.
Seconded, this has saved my ass a couple times.
I think I will just tell him to use memtest then, simple and yet works well
Ubuntu Live
The "hardinfo" package is very useful, similar to Speccy on Windows:
