Domain offer - what's the scam?

I've got a crappy-ish .com that elapsed and is in redemption period. I've just gotten a $5000 offer for it by email on a generic gmail. The email address and the name match, but there's no reference to a business name. I'm pretty sure it's a scam, but what's the angle?

Not every email is a scam.

@squibs can you PM me the email?

  • Proceed with the sale through Escrow and don't accept any other deal-method.

  • Tell him you accept cash only!

  • Or cocaine.

  • Sometimes it's just to determine if the email address is valid for future spamming. I received an "offer" that sounds identical to yours, and I'm following through with it just to see where it goes. I use throw-away email addresses, so I can pretty easily track the outcome.

  • Hmm - I might send a mail and see what happens. I'll keep you posted. $5k would keep me in LEBs for a while...
