After all online.net have a 1Gbps port burstable while SYS have a 250Mbps port?

Cpu performance the online E3 is a better cpu

    Soyoustart https://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/search?utf8=✓&q=AMD+Opteron+4334+

    Online.net https://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/search?q=E3-1230+v3

The plus for Soyoustart the network is better, last time i used online.net the network was overloaded all the time

SYS unless you like being called a wanker in french, and packet loss.

SYS support is useless. SYS network is better.

SYS has 1gbit burstable port. You are only allowed to use 250mbit on avergae though.

Do you have a server with them? If so do you have experienced speeds higher than 250Mbps?

Yes i have a server with them. I can download with about 113mbyte/s (900mbit) using rtorrent and upload about 80mbyte/s (640mbit). Upload might go higher, never had the chance to test it though.

Yes, you can go higher than 250 Mbps, just not sustained for a longer period.

What's your choice on that case?
    I have currently a server with online.net.

Here is my personal judgement (OVH/SYS - Hetzner - Online.net)

    Support
    Hetzner > Online.net > OVH/SYS

    Network
OVH/SYS > Hetzner > Online.net (Online.net's network is terrible for some locations since weeks, if not months. Heavy packet loss every evening (CET) around 22:00 and later.)

    Hardware-Price Ratio
    Online.net > Hetzner > OVH/SYS

My ideal provider for dedicated servers would have Hetzner's support, OVH's network and Online.net's hardware... You must be absolutely sure not to need support when you go with SYS, because there isn't any when you need it. Everything that is not caught by their automatic failure detection will leave you lost for many, many days - if not longer.

Well it depends, if you need Network based help from the Support at SYS, the waiting time expands since technical network experts based in France will reply to you.

I took like 4 Days for the first response and 24 hours+ for each other reply we made.

Yes, but you can often speed this up with a phone call. At least I have made this experience.

That's actually a great and to the point comparison.

  • Hetzner network has improved alot over last 12 months with lots of extra capacity.

One thing they lack over OVH is they make all the networks back haul to their DC, where OVH take there network to local POP's in the country and uplinks there, taking away any congestion or routes taken by the networks, and better local ISP peering.

  • Regarding Online’s AMS-IX congestion: https://status.online.net/index.php?do=details&task_id=533

Seems like they’re working on a 100Gb/s upgrade.

Its about how long they left it in the current state, and how long there taking to upgrade. Far from pro-active that you should be before your ports are anywhere near saturated.

Yes, it's done. And extra-capacity already on the way
You have all details about our network on https://status.online.net/weathermap/, speedtest on http://www.poneytelecom.eu/ and

  • Weathermap seems to be updated now.

And the 100GB/s Pipe is already at 60% Load, GG.

  • Ok, so how's the speed/latency now? US connectivity feeling any better? We're going to buy Online-net stuff again, or we still sticking with SYS?

  • that 100gbit pipe has been at 60% load all day, maybe it's only getting 60gbit from dc3? They did mention something about "getting more lines from dc3 to ams to feed the full 100gbit" in their updates

looks like we need a few more uplinks between DC3 and AMS, good news, it's already ordered and being delivered progressively ;)
we should have some more tomorrow hopefully,
we will order additional capacity to improve redundancy

Speeds during USTZ primetime have gotten a LOT better this last week or two. Don't know if it will stay good, but right now it's solid.

No LINX or did I just miss it on the weathermap?

I cant see it on the weathermap or find Online AS12876 in the list of LINX member at https://www.linx.net/all/tech-info-help/members-by-ip-asn?letter=all

  • I would choose SoYouStart everytime. Online.net has horrible DDoS Protection and you have to pay more to get better protection. If you don't need protection then their network is also complete garbage.

Customer support was also very rude back when I used them.

  • with these prices and characteristics you shold prefer soyoustart, that has also a better network performances
