Anyone using HostHatch?

WickedWicked Member

Hello, is there anyone using their VPS's? I just got my VPS a few hours ago and it took 5+ minutes to install PHP. It seems like I'm able to get some "better" speed now tho.

Testing download speed........................................
Download: 21.25 Mbit/s
Testing upload speed..................................................
Upload: 6.23 Mbit/s

I was also hit with a Layer 7 attack that lasted 2 minutes earlier and this made my VPS go extremely slow for about 1 hour+, I'm pretty sure last time I was with them they had Staminus protection, now it seems like they use Voxility.

Their support is top notch and their HDD's are pretty fast, but I was hoping on some input from other customers.

Thanks!

Fine for me. Where are you downloading from?

I'm getting 500-800Mbps in both NL and SE.

  • I've got a little 256mb from them. I'm happy with it for what I'm paying. It's the perfect IRC box.

@Wicked curious what you are using to testing down/up? I'd like to compare mine to yours.

  • Nvm I found what you're using (I think)

From my 256mb box in Sydney, AU

My server was in Amsterdam and it was a Storage Server, I guess there is a lot of uploading/downloading going on all the time so probably one of the reasons why the speeds are so bad. Also a pretty big issue for me that they don't have Staminus protection anymore.

Will be asking for a refund and go with Kimsufi or SYS.

  • A follow up test shows a pretty nice rate for that moment in time.

I found your account by what you described here.

I believe the problem here is - as you were told in your earlier ticket is that you should not use the protected IP address as the main one, which you currently are doing. It will not show the correct picture of the network speeds on download/upload tests.

I can't say why a 2 minute L7 attack would make your server slow for more than an hour but L7 is not enabled by default. You will have to update your ticket so we can enable it. I do apologize for this - we recently switched to Voxility (after the Staminus hack + other issues with the protection) and this should be in the FAQ/website. It is not updated there yet.

This is surely not the case here. We use at least multiple gigabit (and 10 gigabit on new ones) connections on storage nodes. The actual usage is nowhere close, the average on your node in the past 12 hours is under 500 Mbps with obviously a few spikes, and there is plenty of free bandwidth. A single user is always limited to 1000 Mbps through SolusVM. I am confident this has to do with these tests being performed through the protected IP address instead of the normal network.

Please feel free to open a ticket and we can look into this further.

I was also a HostHatch customer and service was fine considering the price.

I've only been a customer with active service since 2014, but my service with them has always been flawless. I'm incredibly happy with this provider, actually.

    I have done some "benchmarks":

  • @Abdullah, the reason why I changed to the DDoS Protected IP as main is because people easily can find the backend IP. By simply using iplogger.org and place it inside [img*] tags, this will show the backend even though I'm using the protected IP in my DNS.

Also pretty sure I did a speedtest before I changed away from the main IP.

@Wicked Did you configure your web server to only listen to the protected address? And did you block all unused ports on your main IP (including 80/443)? Also if you could explain in detail how you used iplogger.org that'd be great, I'll try to reproduce. Feel free to PM me or open a support ticket.

Also if you see the same speeds with the unfiltered IP as main, please let me know and I will investigate further. I checked and everything looks OK from our end.

Do you really don't understand how the user is getting his IP leaked? It looks like the service he's hosting fetches images from remote places... your suggestion of blocking ports has nothing to do with that.

    Thanks for your reply.

    http://iplogger.org/main/spy/ -> generate a logger -> copy your url (something like http://iplogger.org/xxxx.jpg).

In my case I run a image hosting site and one of the main features is upload images from remote URLs, so by uploading the fake iplogger image it grabs the backend IP even if I use your protected IP in my DNS settings. But it can also be done in other ways, one ways is by putting it inside [img*] tags on forums.

Changed to the unfiltered IP and rebooted, speedtest.net is just timing out and I tried to wget http://mirror.sth.hosthatch.com/100mb.bin, it's just stuck on 0% downloading.

We can probably take the rest over ticket (#178701).

Sorry I wasn't familiar with iplogger.org or what you were hosting, but I can see the problem now. Upload functionality makes it a bit more tricky indeed.

Anyways, we can help you with this if we communicate via [email protected]. It's difficult to resolve via a public forum.

  • I just realized I have a sweet little 128 ovz in hong kong, that I requested after that Swedish RAID misfortune.

    D'oh. UPDATE spreadsheet
