checkmyip.website - IP lookup webste - feedback please.

Hello,

I know there are a few of these websites already but I wanted to make one as all the other ones usually are ad based to help keep them running.

I'm looking for some feedback on what would you like to see been displayed when you want to know your IP ( there anything else which would be usefull which can display?)

Its very basic atm as it literally just displays your IP.

Thanks,
Anthony

You could configure it for IPv6 and have it display those IP's as well. Right now I'm only seeing my IPv4 address.

    Thanked by 1elgs
  • Looks plain and no ipv6. Common nothing really standing out looks like a half done job on a cheap first year .website domain

Sorry if it seems abit harsh.

  • Show basic whois data?

Some basic geolocation data, rdns and a blacklist check, maybe?

    Noted will add to list.

I had hostname on and city also a map showing location but didn't know if it was overkill.

The design is very simple I'm just getting all the data in at the moment and then I'm going to rebuild design the full thing.

    Thanks everyone.

Whipped this up a while ago really fast. Feel free to check the source to add ipv6 support.

Works, but so many websites do a better job. I join the others in asking for IPv6, rdns, blacklist check, and geolocation data. If you also include a map, then please make sure it does not interfere with text-based geolocation data. Some sites display only a map, which is less helpful.

Well, I think most people will create such sites for personal reasons, to learn more about php, dns, ajax, etc. and/or to address one particular use case.

For instance I myself created a similiar page:
    myip.dns4.me

For me it was important to be able to access it also via HTTPS and to get a plain-text only response when accessing it with wget/curl.

Thanks @Jonchun for the simple Ajax code, that's actually a nice addition.

Excellent website - it's similar to what I would like to achieve in terms of displaying information.

    Awesome - thanks.

  • There's a map there which almost shows then disappears. No idea what I've got to enable to see that. Flash is on.

Here's a really good site to compare with. Also, DNS leaks are a big issue these days. You might want to show that.

Since IP location is often very far off (in my case almost always by 2000 miles) a good approach can also be to show a range of choices. With this one, there is one result which is correct for me and that is the only place I've seen that.

You should develop more tools on your website. Please check http://whatismyipaddress.com/ip-tools to get ideas.

Of course privacy is one of the main reasons why you want to host it on your own servers. I mean, access_log off is your friend, but if you want to make sure that this is actually the case, you'll have to do it on your own.

While I don't actively log or monitor anything, I'm going to guess nginx will have access logs

I use ifconfig personally. Maybe overkill for something like this?

Small box try to load in your page but disappear after few second. Maybe Google Map is trying to load?. Site is very nice but I prefer "my ip addr" in** google.**
