    E5-2630Lv4 - 10 cores in 55W is pretty nice. The v3 was 8 cores in 55W.

  • 22 cores sounds pretty odd. Sounds like a wannabe-24-core CPU with 2 of the cores gone bad and disabled.

  • E5-2620 V4 with 8 core and 16 threads - $417
Considering earlier E5-2620 V3 with 6 core, this should be a good choice

The price looks similar to predecessor E5-2600 v3 with more core. Hope there should be noticeable performance improvement.

They do indeed have 24 cores on die with two deactivated.

14nm has proven to be tricky. The death of Moore's law and all that.

Anandtech has the best writeup I think. http://www.anandtech.com/show/10158/the-intel-xeon-e5-v4-review

The fact that only 22 of those 24 cores are activated in the top Xeon E5 SKU is purely a product differentiation decision. The 18 core Xeon E5 v3 used exactly the same die as the Xeon E7, and this has not changed in the new "Broadwell" generation.
