Hello,

I purchased a dedicated server and it said i was getting a Intel Celeron G530 Sandy Bridge Dual Core

but for some reason cpuinfo says:

Is the one they put in my server better than the Intel Celeron G530? or on par? Can someone please clarify this, have i been robbed?

Also, the order page said i was getting DDR3 8GB RAM.. but once i ordered it (and in the server) its DDR. also
[root@server ~]# free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 7772 2725 5046 0 118 1176
-/+ buffers/cache: 1430 6341
Swap: 4191 0 4191

Thanks!

  • Better. Older, but more physical cores.

@KernalSanders thought so, but wanted to be sure What about the DDR/DDR3 RAM?

  • For a rough comparison, these are the Passmark scores for the processors you're referring to (higher is better).
    2957 - Q6000
    2200 - G530

  • That quad core will smoke a celeron any day. Celeron = processors that have failed the high test standards, and then failed the lower standard test as well. Meaning they run hot, ineffectively.

Long story short, any gains you would have gotten with DDR3 would have been wasted on a celeron. You probably would only see speeds close to ddr2 from it anyways.

    I HATE CELERONS.

  • Where was this from?

You got a better CPU than you ordered. The type of RAM makes a negligible difference.

As far as the amount of RAM goes you have you got exactly what you ordered - 8GB. The reason it shows slightly less than that is because the integrated graphics processor built into the motherboard is using some of your RAM. This can be reduced to the bare minimum (maybe 8 or 16MB) by booting into the BIOS and changing the appropriate setting. If you have IPMI or KVM access you can do that yourself or ask your provider's support personnel to do it for you.

  • @Mun said: Celeron = processors that have failed the high test standards,

    Doh?
    Any reliable source about this?

@Mun said: Meaning they run hot, ineffectively.

False, some Celerons even had the possibility to be fanless

    Oh really?

Oh, this one even was using ddr2 oc'ed to 1200 and was oc'ed to 3.5ghz

You have no idea what are you talking about.
