[Free] KVM 512mb 1 week plan, testing nodes

edited March 2016 in Providers

Hi!

I am looking to become a VPS provider, but am currently testing the nodes and just having some general learning experiences. I have 2 different nodes that I am looking to test, and thought the best way to do this is a thread for a week free on LET.

You are welcome to use the VPS for whatever is legal, however I would like you to do some benchmarks, give feedback on them etc.

These are to be manually processed, if you can please leave your LET name in the additional order information so I know who is using which.

Order link: https://clients.thebudgetvps.com/?cmd=cart&action=add&id=6

Please ensure it is listed as weekly then click "Use promotional code" and use the code: LET512TEST

There are a total of 10 of these going.

EDIT: It would appear these have all been taken (albeit, I am awaiting on hearing from a few people if they are ok to test the NY node as Kansas is full)

I got one, I'll post a Serverbear bench soon.

Network isn't stellar, is it limited?

What location did you go for? I am awaiting for the port to be switched to a 1Gb port in Kansas.

  • Kansas, it seems like apt gets packages at 100kb/s.

I didn't do much testing on the Kansas network (only got it today to trial it), performance of the network is dually noted. Can you just confirm that you're using the closest location for apt-get? It might be that the template is grabbing from a location that has bad connectivity.

    Thanks

  • Sure.

I'm waiting on the SB benchmark to come through, so I'll wait on that first.

  • ServerBear won't finish for another few hours because:

    Download Cachefly: 1.29MB/s
Download Linode, Atlanta, GA, USA: 148KB/s
Download Linode, Dallas, TX, USA: 249KB/s
    Download Linode, Tokyo, JP: 75.1KB/s
    Download Linode, London, UK: 84.3KB/s
    Download OVH, Paris, France: 88.7KB/s

Well, that is not what I wanted. I'll talk to the DC and see what they have to say.

    Which provider is this??

Dedispec, its meant to be a 1Gb port but its on a 100mb atm, but it doesn't even seem to be that.

  • Dedispec = Wholesale Internet? Or someone else?

That looks more like 10Mbps connection not 100Mbps!

I believe they are a reseller, or operate out of their old facility, not sure. When I did a speedtest-cli it was 10Mb/s.

  • Ordered, waiting for active.

Kansas node is sadly full, only node left for testing is NY (this should be a much better node)

    Thanks.

  • I applied for the NY node to do some bench and use the promo code but I still get a invoice.

Looks like it ordered it twice, I've deleted the order with an Invoice, approving it now for you.
