Alternative to Plex,emby and Kodi?
Hello, do you guys know an alternative for the ones mentioned above?
Looking for something that:
doesn't check bitrate and doesn't transcode
just plays the media file (all h264/aac in mp4)
can select resolution (720p/1080p file)
Only web client with player and media browser needed.
Comments
http://emby.media/ - can direct play if supported, if you want to select resolution it transcodes though.
that's the problem i have. 1080p direct play works but cant select 720p when i want. 720 is ~8mbit and emby starts at 4mbit and transcodes.
I'm not really experienced in the field, but I'm pretty sure it's not possible to have different resolutions without transcoding?
it's possible. multiple source files. correctly named of course.

This is what I use with my roku, but for my media server, just a simple webserver, I consume a whole 48mb of ram, but hey, this is LowEnd afterall. It will play most standard media files, but I stay lower res, I am more interested in the story than they eye candy.
Plex has the option to disable transcode and bitrate did you check the advance options?
Not an exact alternative but...
Serviio also has a web interface called MediaBrowser for paid users. 2 weeks trial is free though. It actually is a DLNA server but does work over at your server as well. Mobile apps are nice though.
Try Serviio works amazing in my house
could you provide a screenshot? would be helpful
https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Movie naming - Emby should take multiple versions but they have to be named correctly for it to notice it's available in multiple bitrates
