Looking for a cozy little place for my private 3-slot modded minecraft server

Hey Guys,

as the headline describes we are 3 people from europe who enjoy to play minecraft with a customized modpack.
At the moment one player hosts the gameworld at his local machine, but as soon as he leaves, the other two can't proceed to play.

So now we are loooking for a place to run the server 24/7 so that we are more independent from each other.

We won't need ssh/webserver/controlpanel/mail(no spam)/huge traffic/etc., just some diskspace(1-2GB), jvm(1.8 preferred), some cpu-time and 2GB+ RAM.

So far most vps offer's are either too expensive or not usable because of lack of cpu-power.
Perhaps someone has an Idea for a solution (or an idle server who can piggyback us :-) )

  • You are from Europe. But from which countries?

  • It be good to go for vps with a dedicated core as its a game server maybe dediserve?

    @Traffic: We are from Germany, so France/Netherlands/Germany/etc. would be ok

    @masterqqq: Based on the Dedserve Homepage 3GB ram would be 25.19€....

    @Jack: Your offer is based on 1 vCPU. Normally OpenVZ is heavily overselled, so I didn't want to get my process killed or have my server lagg as hell because of throttling. (You also write £4/mo (~$5.60/mo) £12/quarter ($17.50/Qtr), which is nice for people who don't know that a quarter means 3 times montly...or was that a typo?)

  • Hey,
    Please feel free to take a look at the plans on our website, from as low as £0.004 / hour.. There's a in house customer control panel with automatic and On-demand scaling.. add IPv4/v6 on demand, performance analysis graphing, snapshots, etc.

    We've got 24 core servers so can provide a dedicated core if needed.

    Any questions let me know :)

    Bullshit. Es gibt mehr als genug OVZ Hosts, bei denen, falls sie den oversellen, dies kaum bemerkbar ist.

  • @Jack: I'll test the ram usage this evening, the 2GB are an estimatiton of mine, that's why I wrote 2GB+. I'll post the exact numbers as soon as possible

  • @Jack is that KVM vcpu dedicated? Can it be use 24/7 ? What is its speed?

  • If you're happy with Linux, we can do this for you.

    What do you have with 24 cores?

  • R610s.

    What proc?

  • Try https://minerack.org by @Francisco.

    They rock.

  • Hey guys,

    after running the Modpack in its own serverinstance these are the results:

    • up to 4 CPUs could be used
    • 1-1,5GB RAM, it needs 800MB Ram with 2 Player playing
    • 500MB+ DIskspace: The more the Worldfile will grow, the more will it need

    @HostingSpecialists:
    Sure, I'm very happy with Linux (Debian/Ubuntu preferred)
    I looked up your Website, VPS1 has many ressources I wouldn't use (perhaps a custom built?)

    @Jacob:
    If, and only if, these are really "usable" vCores:
    Your "The Advanced Cloud" looks promising, you don't happen to have an hybrid of "The Advanced Cloud" and "The Demanding Cloud"? :-) (3vCPU/2GB RAM/less HDD and Traffic)

    @cloromorpho:
    Hosting our Game at the other end of the world....looks like heavy latency for me :(
    But if you know some providers with these specs and prices in europe, I would be glad to hear :D

    @Frecyboy:
    Ums mal auf Deutsch zu sagen:
    Dann ist der Host überbucht, wir fangen abends an zu dadeln und fressen die CPU-Leistung. Sehr wahrscheinlich, dass der Provider da enges Monitoring betreibt, damit keiner der Kunden Lastprozesse startet, oder irre ich mich?

  • @iffi that's no problem at all, I can come to a compromise on the plan, message me over the requested package.

    You have a choice of two locations, Manchester or Coventry.

    I've never used MineRack though @Francisco's other company (BuyVM) has an excellent reputation.

    I'd recommend going with someone who's Minecraft-focused...or if you don't, doing a pre-sales ticket to say exactly what you're going to use the system for so the host has a chance to object before you're using it.

    BuyVM has a Luxembourg location, forgot Minerack is only in Las Vegas... :(

  • We offer Minecraft Hosting in Europe which would be good for your requirements if you aren't looking for root access.

    Comes with Multicraft and full FTP access as standard, take a look at the plans here.

    For now :) I plan to have MR stock back in LU this weekend.

    We rolled out our own panel over there so we're needing to shuffle some users around to make room for things. Some users don't want to leave multicraft since they know it so well, but then they sit complaining about how broken it is.

    Iwstack?

  • If you are still looking for a server, use the dediserve link from my sig, it gives you 50% off. Be quick because the promo is ending soon, and it's not an aff link.

    We are able to offer custom plans. Let us know via live chat.

    Hey guys, sorry for the long absence.
    Besides this discussion I got many offers via pm, some (very) good ones and some "not_so_good" ones (to be polite).

    @hostnoob:

    Regardless of your name that would be a nice option....but because of minecraft the one cpu in the ovh offer would perhaps be not enough to handle the peakload ...

    @HostingSpecialists:

    Will chat with your support eventually. Thanks for the offer to discuss a custom plan

    @TheOnlyDK:

    The website states that "This coupon cannot be applied to your order"

    @Francisco:

    Still no EU Location selectable on your site :(

    @WSCallum:

    You site doesn't work yesterday and today....and you even condsider to offer any services??? Oh dude.....bad advertising
    (But you are not the only one with a non-working homepage who offers me vps, but I will not denounce anyone, not my style...)

    @Jacob:
    I'll send you some preferrable settings, the location would be based completly on latency and the costs.
    And i do have some questions in advance:

    • What kind of CPUs does your cloudnodes use (cpu-generation/clock). It could save us both time of these weren't able to keep up (e.g. old C2Q/Xeon X...... etc)
    • Because of the pay-per-hours-used: What happens to your customers data, do we have to save them to a local storage everytime we turn of the instance? Or does your company provide something like permanent storage?
      Sorry for being so demanding, it's a habbit from my workplace.(expensive hpc servers etc :-( )

    We got a maintenance scheduled in the next hour or so (getting dinner first) to shuffle things around in EU.

    Shouldn't be too much longer ;)

    Don't got one yet. Tim & I (mostly Tim) have been busy migrating people from multicraft as they ticket in for it. It's a bit of a pain since Multicraft is such a fustercluck.

  • @Francisco: Nice, will look it up this evening

    I can message you on here once we have it available if that makes it easier for you. Just let me know what plan interests you.
