is anyone else facing this issue...getting stuck at "Installing OS" for an hour now ?

I got that too, the IDRAC has crashed and they will get back to me.

    Submit a ticket.

Yours too? :) I'm still waiting for mine to be physically restarted. Interesting how easy it is to crash this.

They installed Debian manually for me, because it crashed every time I tried to install an OS through the panel.

  • Mine crashed twice already. Once during install and once during raid-installation.

I had some other issues too, so I basically just gave up on the server.

Also, dmidecode --type 16 showed the same for me, but when checking the actual DIMMs (dmidecode --type memory), it gave me the part numbers of the DIMMs (in my case M378B5273CH0-CH9) which are actually non-ECC.

    Yep - I've got M378B5273CH0-CH9 too - non ECC.

    This seems to indicate ECC

    [root@vault13 ~]# dmidecode --type 16
    # dmidecode 2.12-dmifs
    SMBIOS 2.6 present.

    Handle 0x1000, DMI type 16, 15 bytes
    Physical Memory Array
        Location: System Board Or Motherboard
        Use: System Memory
        Error Correction Type: Multi-bit ECC
        Maximum Capacity: 16 GB
        Error Information Handle: Not Provided
        Number Of Devices: 4

BUT as you say this shows the part number doesn't reflect ECC

    [root@vault13 ~]# dmidecode --type memory
    # dmidecode 2.12-dmifs
    SMBIOS 2.6 present.

  • Some Xeons are able to work with non-ECC memory as well.

  • george_zip said: They installed Debian manually for me, because it crashed every time I tried to install an OS through the panel.

That's actually a good service. I'm still waiting for a response to get the server out of maintenance. It's been hanging there for the past six hours or so.

  • My server is down, they're changing the non-ECC RAM.

  • After a few messages going back and forth over the support ticket (they were going to refund my money back) they were able to replace the faulty RAM on my box. These boxes need some thorough testing before anything put on them.

  • Well.. i ordered the dual xeon type.

Install is okay , IPMI is okay , ECC memory , SAS DISKS , IO is a bit low 80mb/s but acceptable. So for me its perfect.

Dont know when they will release the new start line. Hm

Well i got two limited server and i use it for production. 350 and 140 day uptime.

Once HDD crashed they replaced it within a hour.

I am lucky but i cant really say bad about them...

  • anyone having this issue?

Thanks :) We will see... 2x500GB SSD should be great for 30 euro :P

Can't really say I am impressed either that they are locking servers and refunding, not much use if the server breaks and they can't fix it!

Is it, what am I missing then, M378B5273CH0-CH9 certainly looks like non ECC ram to me.

That begs to differ - Says NON ECC

Whops, missed the "9" there, the 7 in yours should be a 9, must have miss read. I'm sorry.

  • If you are all so unhappy with the RAM being non-ECC I will gladly take it...

Yeah the M391B1G73BH0-YH9 some have is definitely ECC

  • They replaced the Samsung M378B5273DH0-CH9 (non-ECC) for Nanya NT4GC72B8PB0NL-CG (ECC) in my 08161.

It's not about being unhappy, it's about advertising one thing and delivering something very different.

yes you are right. I got the same modules. but as told I do not care about at the given price (even did not recognize ecc was included with the offer ;-))

My server checks every 5 minutes for updates, maybe you could try? I use an app called Huginn.

Some of their OS s failed to install properly ( they admitted that) it stalled

I think I’m gonna drop mine for this reason. It’s just a Plex server, but I don’t want to reconfigure it and download everything again in a few months just because they couldn’t fix it.

karjaj said: When your server went "poof" state? Mine 08161 disappeared, when I tried to install Debian 8 with IRDAC for custom partitioning. First installation time, Debian 8 network not worked, because firmware for NIC not found. Then, 2nd try, I loaded firmware, that Debian 8 said, and POOF.. :( Server state "unavailable".

I installed Debian 8 as it was the first option available. Apparently it crashes iDRAC and in my cases it caused everything to stop working.

I'm now hoping it will install a different OS from their console so I can finally use iDRAC to install Ubuntu from ISO.

Fingers crossed, since it's been trying to boot my server as part of the re-installation process for a while now.

Update: yep, what I thought. It's still working on 'Start dedibox' and it's been 15 minutes now.

  • if anybody selling/not using dedi,pm me :)

  • They get mine back to online.
Then I switched to soft raid and installed Debian 8 with their installer(not IDRAC) and partitioned it to RAID1 without swap and all free space after /boot and root was /data.
    Installation went ok.
Then I removed /data and re-partitoned it manually with fdisk, so now I have extended partition with my custom layout. :)
Then I manually installed Proxmox 4 without any problems.
Server works now and it is in testing.

My server is also without ECC, M378B5273DH0-CH9 is memory type. :/
