US east coast 1000GB storage VPS wanted @ around $30/mo

Looking for a VPS with approximately the following specs:

  • 2x / 4x 2Ghz+ CPU
  • 1024MB+ RAM
  • 1000GB storage
  • 5TB bandwidth
  • 1Gbit network (shared port)
  • OpenVZ or KVM are fine (as long as FUSE is enabled in OpenVZ kernel), looking to run Ubuntu Server

SSD cached would be nice, but not necessary. It must be on the US east coast (preferably NYC or Washington D.C. or something in-between, geographically).

Budget: around $30/mo.

The BuyVM storage VPS's would fit perfectly into these specs and budget but they're often sold out so I'm hoping to find a similar offer here.

Thanks for reading.

or @dacentec offer from above ▲

    @volumedrive guys can you customize the Intel G530 (2 Cores) / 4 GB Ram / 500 GB / 1 GBPS / Dedicated Server Special - $10.00 with 1 TB HDD

  • If single drive dedi works: https://cc.delimiter.com/cart/dedicated-servers/

    $30/mo or $60/quarter - Dual E5420, 16GB, 1TB HDD, 10TB bandwidth in Atlanta.

We have a new OpenVZ storage line (ZFS, NVMe SSD-cached) but I don't believe we allow Fuse, that's ~$14/mo for 1TB.

If Manassas, Virginia is OK, take a look at @ru_tld 29 EUR dedi offer (LeaseWeb).

@mikeyur Have you forgotten your HA KVM StorageVPS? It's $20-25/m for 1TB I believe.

Hah, good point! I'd recommend the cloud resource pool, as it's a bit more full featured than the Storage KVM - and the same price for storage.

KVM, 2 cores, 1GB ram, 1TB storage = $25.40/mo. Can add/remove cores & storage, can spin up 1 VM per cpu core - so you can order more cores and slice up your storage. https://cc.delimiter.com/cart/cloud-resource-pool/

  • Wow, I wasn't aware that I would be into dedi price ranges, great :).

In particular the delimiter server looks awesome, a shitload of extra RAM and all dedicated resources at the same price I was expecting? Any others fees I should know about with dedicated servers (vs. VPS) such as setup fees or anything? I've never worked with a dedi before, can I just mount my ISO and install my OS manually?

@mikeyur do you have a test IP for your $30 dedi? I noticed that network speed is 1 Gbit, is that also dedicated? And what's the deal with "Misuse of System Resources" in the TOS? Is that also applicable to dedi's (where you can't bother your "neighbor" like on a VPS right)?

Thanks for the help so far guys!

We don't have any setup fees. If you order that server quarterly it's $60, so works out to $20/mo. Or annually at $200 (~$16.67/mo). You change your billing term at any time.

I've never worked with a dedi before, can I just mount my ISO and install my OS manually?

We have an automated provisioning system. So you can install all the popular linux flavours, or you can use ILO to mount your own ISO. Can reinstall whenever you want.

PM'd you an IP. It's a shared gigabit connection, but we have quite a large pipe in ATL so you should be able to hit gigabit speeds nearly all the time.

The TOS needs an update, it was from when we were primarily a VPS provider. There's no resource abuse on the dedis, it's your machine to do what you want with. If you want to transfer stuff at 1Gbps and use it until you hit your 10TB cap, that's not a problem. (Obviously can't use the connection to DDoS someone though..)

  • @jant90 - also possible to send your own hard drive to Delimiter for $10/mo to Delimiter which would put you well below budget. I'm sure @mikeyur can elaborate.

We have ALL the storage products. http://www.delimiter.com/landingpage/slothosting/index.html

The page is out of date though, it comes with 4TB of bandwidth. You can also stack them, so can order 2 plans, send 2 drives, double all specs - then SW RAID them together or whatever you want.

  • Not sure if Lenoir is in West Coast but keep an eye on https://billing.dacentec.com/hostbill/index.php?/cart/dedicated-servers/ as well as their facebook page. They often have great deals like I've a 2xL5420 16GB 2X2TB for $30/m & guess what, they replaced drives with new 2x3TB as a courtesy when I showed them 2x2TB drives's SMART errors.
