smallish dedi/decent vps for 1tb/month icecast stream + active forum/chatroom

so, im after a server/vps for a customer who wants to stream a daily 2 hour sports audio chat show, 95% of listeners are in the UK, so UK/Europe is preferable, they are using the equivalent of 200gb a month for the stream via mixlr atm, but will need 1tb+ a month within a year at the current rate of growth.

it will also be running a website, probably wordpress with bbpress & a busy chatroom so a decent ram allowance would be needed.

50gb space would be enough for the next few months but they would need an option to add more when required.

my shortlist so far is

prometeus BIZ XEN-9 - 4 Cores, 2GB ram, 80 GB space, 2 IPv4 & 4 IPv6, 5000 GB (Monthly), €24inc tax

prometeus cloud SSD 6G - 4 vCPU, 6 GB ram, 50GB space, 2 ipv4, 2TB/Month, €18inc tax

ovh (EG-7 - 2 vCores, 3.1 GHz, 7 GB RAM, 200 GB space, 250 Mbps, £25 (€32inc tax)

so far im leaning towards the prometeus cloud, not because its the cheapest but the extra ip possibility & ease of increasing hd space later on, any suggestions would be great, also any reasons why im wrong about what ive picked out, established hosts only pls, i dont want to have to redo it every 6 months when the host goes down :/

budget of £20-30 (€25-32) a month, long term but paying monthly, 2 or 3 months upfront wouldnt be a problem if it ticks all the boxes. :)

thankyouuu

Go with directly clouvider.co.uk instead of their resellers.

  • You should prop. pick two servers instead of one. It makes sense to split the boxes as they serve completely different purposes.

One for streaming and one for webhosting.

It also helps when it comes to security and should keep the latency and load low, when multiple people connect, browse, listen and so on.

If you just need the streaming - box a couple hours per day, it might also make sense to use hourly based services. Install and set up everything, create an image / freeze it. Once you need it just fire it up and have fun. Even saves money...

  • Delimiter 5USD/month Atom or a Scaleway server?

  • Hey,
    I can do a Quad Core, 16GB RAM, 1 x 1TB 7,200 SATA HDD, 10TB @ 1Gbps for £30 / Month.

You would receive Drac access to this and it would be provisioned in our rack within MediaCity, Manchester.

  • icecast steaming can be doable with 128MB NAT vps just fine, even less, if it is just streaming and not re-encoding and auto-dj. You just need a vps with good connectivity that fits your expected listeners number. For example, if you will have in your peak 200 simultaneously listeners at 128kbps, then, you need ~30Mbps stable connection.
Use a second vps for our forum, if it has lot of visitors. For 20-30K visitors per day, a well configured and optimized vps of 2GB memory and access at least to 2 decent cores will do.

  • I can do a KVM SSD VPS, or an OVZ HDD Raid 10(can offer a nice discount on the OVZ one) but in the US if interested let me know.

+1 - NAT boxes really are underrated.
