Centos 6.3 on KVM - Encrypt system

Hello All,

I am new in here, about to install Centos 6.3 on a KVM VPS and have a couple of questions:

  • I am thinking of enabling the "Encrypt system" option of the installer. Would that be a strong enough protection? ( Ignoring this )

  • Can anyone provide figures or a link of some sort, with some indication of overheads using the option above? Note: AES instructions are not available.

Cheers,
GeorgeG

    1. No.
    2. It depends on the number of IOPS you will do. Usually it is negligible, on busy DB VPSes without much memory to cache will be harsh, however.
Rule of thumb: If you think you need SSD, it will probably be important enough to matter, otherwise, no.
