HostUs Review

edited December 2015 in Reviews

HostUs is by far one of the best providers I have ever used. While they are missing many of the features I look for, such as having support for game servers, not supporting IPv6 subnets, and not offering cheap additional bandwidth, all of their advantages are so strong it makes its worth it. I have tested several of their locations throughout my lifetime with them, and even though I had problems with their Atlanta location, their other locations such as Dallas and Ashburn are ultra fast, and I've never had any downtime with any of the plans.

I have only tested their Dallas, Atlanta, and Ashburn locations, and I would recommend staying away from Atlanta from my own experiences. Even though I haven't used their London location, I have heard that the network there is great, and plan on getting one eventually.

Their pricing is great, especially though one of their offers on LEB or LET, however their pricing for their Hong Kong and Australia plans are a bit on the pricey side compared to US and EU, but that can be expected coming from those locations.

Their support is great, always responding within an hour from all times of the day, although most of my questions have been sales questions, as my VPSes have never had any real issues.

I have been trying to find a better plan for months now, and I have finally come to the conclusion that I won't find a better host than HostUs. They have already recently expanded to Hong Kong, Australia, and England, and I hope to see them expand even further.

I don't even know if their affiliate program is even setup, but just incase it is, you can sign up with my affiliate link below. https://my.hostus.us/aff.php?aff=868 https://hostus.us/

    Hi @serverhunter

Thank you so much for your review about our company, it means a lot to me and my team. Special mentions to Andrew and Thomas for their massive contribution to HostUS as our staff.

I'll add your thoughts/requests to my notebook and will bring this up at our end of December review.

What issues did you have in ATL? We have been in ATL since day 1 and we have always been striving to improve ATL.

HK and SYD are a tad more expensive, but they are still really cheap in the market.

I'm glad you like our WDC Location.

Best wishes and have a Merry Christmas.

    Cheers,
    Alexander

    Hi serverhunter

Everything in Atlanta just seemed slow, especially the network. I'm guessing its mostly due to my ISP routing.

I have HostUS VPS(s) in Atlanta and Dallas.
They are one of my favorite providers.
"slow" is NOT how I would describe them.
EDIT: Atlanta is quite a way (6500km or so) from you in llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, Wales. ;)

Singapore location at HK prices would make HostUs perfect :)
    Oh... and KVM

  • @serverhunter, I have to agree with @FrankZ and defend HostUS a bit. Their Atlanta location has not been slow in my experience.

    • Decent performance: Out of approx 30+ instances, my distributed server monitors ranks them the fastest on average from 14 locations in North America & Europe
    • Relatively solid & stable: I currently have 340+ days uptime with great performance
    • UptimeRobot currently reads 100%/100%/100% (24hrs/7 days/30 days)
    • And, one of the few providers I trust enough to have multiple instances with in the same location

    • Not being a fanboy, but just have to defend a very decent provider (over two years with them)

    • My only gripes were IP changes in the past and LowEndDDoS after they posted offers (the reason I don't often praise providers here)

Maybe your unsatisfactory performance in this location could be an isolated situation?

Note: I have no other affiliation besides currently being a satisfied customer.

    Thanked by 1FrankZ
  • We saw a lot of packet loss in Atlanta when we tested it. We are testing WDC now with IPv6.

Since this is a review I'll add a last 24 hours snapshot of the load times from Seattle, Dallas, Montreal, and Paris for my HostUS Atlanta smtp(25), dns(53) and nginx(80) servers.

    DNS lookup response

    HTTP page load

    SMTP EHLO response

@geekalot I want to be able to write as well as you in my next life.
    Edit: added smtp

    Thanked by 1geekalot
  • I'll +1 that,

I've have been a HostUs client for a while now, their support is amazing.

Been a customer for probably over a year, totally love the service.

@ALexanderM ATL seems to have network issues from time to time in that I lose connectivity for a minute at a time. I use the vpses only for dev so it doesnt affect me much. Maybe you can have a look at monitoring the network to see what or why this happens?

It's part of a monitoring system I made in perl after I got kicked off Delimiter for using Observium.
The graphs are just perl-GD-Graph/perl-GD-Graph-bars displays of the accumulated monitoring data.

HostUs seems to have two looking DCs in Dallas. DAL1 ping looks better from Incero.

Where do the 768MB LEBs go?

    Ref: DAL1 http://dal-lg.hostus.us/ , DAL2 : http://dal02-lg.hostus.us/

  • If i remember correctly, they have stopped provisioning services in DAL1, and new services will be provisioned only at DAL2.

    I could be wrong though.

But, I currently have 5 services with them, and everything is absolutely perfect, running near on a year uptime last I checked, support is spot on!

  • What?

I'm not a delimiter customer, but that's a pretty insane reason.
