Looking for shared webhosting (Buyshared.net alternative)

Since Buyshared.net just told me they won't have any more stock until next year I'm looking for an alternative.

Requirements:

  • Directadmin or cPanel. (I prefer DA)
  • In or around The Netherlands
  • Supports .htaccess (and rewrite)
  • SSH access. (Need to use Composer)
  • Laravel support (Pretty much boils down to atleast PHP 5.6 and SSH access)
  • GIT support
  • Needs to be around for several years, I want something that is up today and is up a few years from now without having to move around.
  • Payments yearly or half yearly
  • Specs don't matter much, I'll start small and upgrade whenever necessary.

Anyone good any good recommendations?

  • Most of the CloudLinux / cPanel hosts should support your needs.

I can think of HostUS and impactshared (impact VPS).

Are you sure that most of CloudLinux / cPanel hosts offer SSH? I doubt so.

I do not see many hosts offering SSH from the first day. But if you buy a yearly plan you will be able to get it.

Jailed shell is a standard feature of cPanel

You might find this more convenient than cPanel/DA hosting: http://www.fortrabbit.com/

That really looks awesome, but a bit overkill for a few personal projects.

  • Try iniz shared host. They advertised it here a while back

  • I have a reseller from BuyShared that I use for some of my clients. If you're interested I could set you up a shared hosting account in it for the same price. >:)

Not wanting to be rude, but I want to setup everything and don't want to do that again. :)
    Thanks for the offer though.

They only offer shared hosting in NY.

Setup and migrate everything. Time is scarce for me and the last thing I want is to worry about my stuff if it will be online the next day. :) That is why I want a company that has been around for several years.

I think he's referring to me being a one-man operation with my clients, and he wants something that's going to be stable in the long term (like if one day I decided I don't care anymore I'd just stop the entire service). Completely understandable, I've been in the same boat before lol.

Makes sense. I guess even I can't help in that case :)

    Indeed :)

  • I would avoid Dreamhost, if I were you.

1pwh.uk - DA or cPanel, CloudLinux, LiteSpeed, PHP 4/5/7 selection, SSH access for £12/yr in UK. Their 65% OFF is not available anymore, am I correct @onepound? HostUS has UK shared too.

If FR is OK take a look at https://spaceweb.eu/shared-litespeed-hosting by @ZweiTiger

@mikho offer NL shared as far as I know.

    Thanked by 1onepound
  • @ZweiTiger is a great person!

Correct, the 65% Black Friday deal is no longer available.
Is not often promos on the hosting as pricing already very competitive for UK hosting.
DA hosting is now pure SSD, cpanel will be from early next year.

And now with a wonderful new control panel design!

Your website flies even from latin america, the design is very attractive and now a new control panel.

I'll ask some screenshots in private about the cp not to derail the topic. Keep it up!

  • Alright, in the end: I bought a Buyshared.net server in America and wanted to be moved as soon as possible. But they didn't support GIT.

I'm still looking but right now a bit buys with all the holidays. I think best way to go is to buy a small vps. (RamNode or so) and install Kloxo-MR or VestaCP. (Good thing about this is that I can run my other site on it too. Which needs about 30Gb of space)

Thank you everyone for thinking and a happy new year!

Good luck with it man. It's nice to see people not trash talk a provider for not supporting something and instead be a grown up and just look for an alternative. Thank you for being a grown up ;)

  • taronyu said: VestaCP

last vestacp bugged=( A lot of bugs make really hard to manage...
Cheaper & faster configure each part of web-server by yourself... =(

I did ask them why and their response was 'the more we add to shared hosting the less likely it is that people will buy a vps'. Ofcourse I understand their reasoning I still think git is something that should be available even for a shared hosting account.

But oh well.. Nothing I can do about it. Their support is still on of the best, and ofcourse they are all really nice people.

Yeah I'm not sure yet which one I will choose. There are so many but none are just as great as cPanel or DirectAdmin.

  • @taronyu.

I was use https://spaceweb.eu/ and misterhost.net, both really cool.

They're probably trying to keep shared hosting as shared hosting, as opposed to offering a generalized "run your Unix shell here" thing. $5/yr would be a very cheap way to signup and only use git/svn/etc. which probably isn't what they're after. @Francisco could clarify but I don't find it surprising, though there are some shared hosting providers (e.g., Dreamhost) who offer git. Of course, you're paying $10/mo instead of $10/yr.

@taronyu - Are you wanting to run a repos or just needing to checkout?

I was pretty sure GIT was included by default. I can add it if it's just running a checkout or something, but I'm not sure a repos will work overly well.

The guys are reasonable in the statement. If we start letting people run everything under the sun we'll start having people trying to run znc and crap like that.

    Francisco

  • We can do this at Hosting Specialists. We're based in the UK, so not too far from NL.

I've been talking with him, he only wants to clone and pull something
