On one of my buyVM vps, using python and paramiko to script something, this is the output I get:

This just makes me want .32 more.

EDIT: Why did you edit out the uname -a part / re-word this? This isn't very mysterious.

  • Another one of these threads.

  • LOL Welcome to BuyVM :)

  • That's what all my OVZ boxes there do. Welcome to the club :)

  • It's the default /etc/motd on some of their templates.

  • That's pretty cool! :D If you don't want it on your server all you have to do is modify your motd file.

Despite BuyVM's love of pathetic pony cartoons, I still respect them as a great host.

    :)

    You can nuke /etc/motd :P

    Welcome to pony land. :3

    Francisco

  • You get that output from your script too, or just the normal buyvm banner?

He's likely using SSH to execute commands which loads the MOTD. He can either tell SSH to not push the MOTD, or just nuke /etc/motd :)

    Francisco

  • Ah k makes sense now

Yep, using paramiko/python. Never noticed it however on a normal ssh login.

    >

Some of the templates are official OpenVZ or turnkeylinux so I didn't tamper with them :P The minimals I did myself so they're sexy++

It's just a spoiler for the coming PonyVPS/PonyVM/PonyNode

Edit: And it's funny that PonyVPS.com is actually redirecting to BuyVM.

    Francisco

That doesn't quite look like the MLP-looking pony in the motd.

True! I couldn't find a better looking ASCII pony alas nor was I going to spend hours trying to draw one :P I took whatever came up in the first page of google.

Oh and I thought you drew it. Disappointed :)

  • Ah non-minimal, that's why my 12.04 doesn't have it. Guess I can copy/paste from here.

  • That's funny. Cute.

Not what I'd expect for the motd, but it could be a lot worse.

Contrary to the public statement, I think BuyVM staff watched "Mr Hands" too much

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enumclaw_horse_sex_case

  • Fumoffu.

  • As per the wikipedia which seems flush with great details about such, ahh troubling matters:

During a July 2005 sex act, videotaped by a friend, he [Kenneth Pinyan, a Boeing engineer] suffered a perforated colon and later died of his injuries. The story was reported in The Seattle Times and was one of that paper's most read stories of 2005.[3] It was informally referred to as the "Enumclaw horse sex case".[4]

Pinyan's death rapidly prompted the passing of a bill in Washington prohibiting both sex with animals and the videotaping of the same. Under current Washington law, bestiality is now a Class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison.[5]

A documentary of the life and death of Pinyan, and the life led by those who came to the farm near Enumclaw, debuted at the Sundance Film Festival 2007 under the title Zoo. It was one of 16 winners out of 856 candidates for the festival,[6] and played at numerous regional festivals in the United States thereafter.[7] Following Sundance, it was also selected as one of the top five American films to be presented at the prestigious Directors Fortnight sidebar at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.

Quite the mismash of liberal and conservative clashings around that incident. Another academic gone to the strange side of life.

    Death by horse.
