How to check if HDD is dying?

I have a kimsufi server with windows server 2012 installed. I notice the I/O has been slow lately so is there a way to check if the HDD is dying so I can show proof to kimsufi in order to get a replacement.

Yes, smartctl / smartmontools

You'll want to look for pending sectors.. and uncorrectable errors.

CrystalDiskInfo is also a nice GUI windows app that detects USB drives well
