shared hosting with large disk quota

Who's good for shared hosting where the main criteria are:

  • disk space (couple of hundred GB)

  • performance (must be mid-range or better for wordpress)

  • support (if something goes wrong they get back in a few hours and don't automatically blame wordpress for the error)?

I'm firing an acquaintance who I was hosting one one of my own servers, and want to give her an exit plan.

Shared hosting with couple of hundred GB space? Don't think I've ever seen such a thing that would actually let you use it all.

exactly how much space and bandwidth you need ?

also do you need cPanel or other open source panel works too ?

    what is your budget ?

  • If she pissed you off, then let her find one on her own.

This person is selling photos - lots of high res photos, and they're using close to 100GB already, so 200GB would be a realistic minimum. Bandwidth usage is small - most of the photos never sell, but she uploads them all as she never knows which ones will sell. I'm aware of the "unlimited storage" providers who will shut you down once you go over their unpublished limit. I had her hosted on Vesta, so panel isn't important. I would say $100/yr is the budget - she's stingy.

I suggest to use wpengine.com as they will not blame wordpress for any error.

Premium and Enterprise plan will suite your needs I believe.

Edit: didn't see her budget at first.

Unlimited Disk space and Unlimited bandwidth should run about 50-70/yr.

  • Can't she put her stuff on flickr's 1TB free plan and hot link those images to save on disk space? She can also have her images backed up on amazon cloud drive and at home etc.

You're kidding right? First of all as a provider you should be aware there's no such thing as unlimited disk space... it's just a marketing gimmick.

That is correct however she will be allowed to use as much disk as needed, im sure depending on what host she uses.

I know it is not quite enough, but there is an option for 125GB at $7/mo on the reseller plans of BuyShared http://buyshared.net/cpanel-reseller-hosting/

(I'm not affiliated other than being a customer)

OVH offers this plan - https://www.ovh.co.uk/web-hosting/web-hosting-pro.xml

    £4.69 excl. VAT/month and 250GB disk space.

    Similarly, Online.net offer http://www.online.net/en/hosting/online-pro

€3.99 / month (ex vat) for 300GB disk space. (There is also an option for €5.99 / month (ex vat) for 750GB)

    100+ GB space
Support available 24/7 with a few hours turn around
    For $100/year?

I could probably do the server with Vesta on my Dacentec server, the support is the issue. I can't do that since even I have to sleep sometimes.
Do you have any more info about the WP installation? Lots of plugins etc?
    Ram needed?

Better to purchase a VPS with 100GB disk space and install webserver, mysql, etc yourself.

agree... for wordpress you can use: nginx + mariaDB + xcache + memcache and another to better performance.

  • Yup - I have her on a Kidechire running Vesta right now, but if I have any involvement in the new setup, I'll have to support it, and that's not happeining. Flickr won't work - all photos are products available for sale at various sizes (using nextgen pro for that).

@YellowHummingbird that OVH option looks perfect, and it's within budget. Thanks.

Purchasing VPS or PaaS will be good for running Wordpress

And if you still want shared hosting, we have good offers on Shared Packs

from 5 GB disk to Unlimited Plans at really very low price (USA/NL/FR Server Locations Able)

Suggested plan at $4/month (Unlimited Disk in France Server) - https://rackhost.info/cart.php?gid=17

I had nearly that at Dreamhost. Less now but they've never complained. I pay $9/mo or something like that for a couple dozen sites (some of which are family who have their own logins).

There are people on WHT who mentioned they had 1TB+ at Dreamhost.

  • Drop us a sales enquiry and we should be able to offer you a suitable package if the EU works for you?

  • Is there a reason why you can't get a server with lots of storage (like from time4vps or something) and then upload all the files there. Have the site hosted elsewhere if that server isn't fast enough and then just hotlink everything from that server.

VPS would be the best option for you.

  • We offer 100GB Storage for $15.00 /Month
With Plesk Panel which is friendly with WordPress

For $100 /Year better buy Storage VPS :)

  • Guys, I have my solution thanks courtesy of @YellowHummingbird

    https://www.ovh.co.uk/web-hosting/web-hosting-pro.xml

    or

    http://www.online.net/en/hosting/online-pro

both meet all the requirements. In terms of support, both suck, but I know they have good infrastructure and aren't going to deadpool.

There are many web hosts that offer shared hosting with a generous amount of disk space. It's always good to read reviews of actual clients from the host you're interested in, see what they say about their support and how quickly they solve problems for them.

We have hosting specifically for WordPress and shared hosting, with both Linux and Plesk OS with generous amount of disk space and bandwidth.
