Let us know what you find out! :)
We've been having an eye of utilizing our server's spare resources for content delivery, but haven't wanted to develop our own system to do that, at least yet.

Take onapp and buy locations from the marketplace.

Care to explain ? Who will accomplish this? Where will you have POPs? Why would people choose you instead of big players who have loads of cash to invest in infra, employees, r&d , etc?

  • I like MaxCDN, but if you're building your own, Dediserve has plenty of locations where you can build your POPs :)

I'm having difficulty understanding why anyone would use a CDN in the first place. When everything is all spread out over the Internet, there's always something going wrong somewhere. Take a look:

    http://status.maxcdn.com/history

4 "degraded performance" events this month. And it's only the 5th of the month (at least in U.S.).

For the same price as entry-level CDN you can buy a super-premium dedicated server. Just a thought.

@singsing doesn't mean it was service affecting.

For example, with our CDNs we monitor our PoPs. Should any of them misbehave it is automatically removed from service and the visitors are directed to the next closest one.

Makes sense. Call me paranoid, but I still think things are glitchy for at least a short time (though CloudFlare, for example, claims that they can lose a PoP without anyone noticing). Of course, with a large number of POPs, the number of affected users gets divided down.
