SCP Slow transfer to container, but fine to hostnode
I'm trying to SCP a 1GB file from my US server to Hetzner. I get good speeds (20MB/s) when transferring to the hostnode, but when I do the same to a container on that hostnode, speeds are extremely slow (100KB/s). Container and HN are both centos
Does anyone know what might cause this?

have you checked your configuration?
what configuration specifically? My openvz setup is just vanilla OVZ with default configs.
network speed, probably cpu i/o?
When your transferring to your VM how does the load show within top?
Have you placed any OpenVZ limits on the container like I/O bandwidth.
Network speed and IO are same for hostnode and container, no limits were set. Load is normal, no increase. CPU is also E3.
Speed is first 2MB/s, then goes down to 1MB/s then drops to 100KB/s
multiple HDD ? if yes try to create another vps in another hdd if is not Raid
So when you do a file transfer without encryption (e.g. with FTP) it is same speed or different speed?
When I use HTTP the speed is fine, I think there is an encryption bottleneck somewhere
check node/container with mtr and iperf, change to an alternative probably older kernel, run those tests again, your kernel may be the issue. ref. http://toruonu.blogspot.my/2012/12/openvz-latest-kernels-screw-networking.html
And yet you said that CPU usage in the container is not high (even when checking htop which displays stats for each core)?
