Hello, i need to fix a site with SQL load, and im looking for something at least 16 cores and SSD hard drive, if you know some bussines with that, please tell me.

not expensive as 50 dlls/mo

and if is on Europe is great, just want to run mysql or maybe cpanel too for 1 site.

12-16 cores ( or more )
4-8Gb ram
60Gb hard drive (or more )

thank you.

To start those two come off the top of my head.

Honestly with what you want and what you expect, I feel like it's going to be hard to get.

Check with OVH or Hetzner for their dedicated server deals, but I really think your budget is too small (for 16 cores).

Seems too much for a regular node :/

  • Hey @dedicados,

Before you decide to switch servers, have you tried optimising MySQL?
In addition, have you tried using MariaDB/Percona?

  • @prometeus: I think you guys just started SSD VPSes so I thought you guys would be able to get something together, but yeah what he expects is basically an entire node for a really cheap price.

  • ok maybe i go to low with 50dlls month, let change it to 100 dlls month.

Is that dollars? I don't think you'll find this for less than $50. @CVPS_Chris can probably hook you up though.

100$ is enough, you can get a dedicated server with OVZ/Hetzner.
16 cores is a lot tho... You sure need that much ?

  • im with @prometeus is a really good company, best support ever, but that single site stills giving problems with load.

@damian well can be 50 dlls low for a whole node, but i just need tu put 1-2 sites only

i need 12 cores or more for that site, i optimize mysql on vps but stills to much traffic =)

We can offer you 12 cores.

Ok so let me get this straight. (correct me if I'm wrong)

    Budget: 100 dollars a month
    Preferred Location: Europe
    Minimum Number of Cores: 12
    Minimum RAM: 4 GB
Minimum Hard Drive Space: 60 GB (SSD)

    Possible Locations
    Hetzner
    Price: 89 euros/month (Base Price of 59 euros/month) (+VAT if applicable)
    Location: Germany
Core: i7 (4 physical cores, 8 threads with hyperthreading)
    RAM: 24 GB
    Hard Drives: 2x 750 GB SATA and 1x 120 GB SSD (30 euros/month addon)
This server lacks in the cores, also the core is desktop quality

    OVH
    Price: 69.99 euros/month (+VAT if applicable)
Location: France, Germany (I think?), and USA
Core: E3-1245 v2 (4 physical cores, 8 threads with hyperthreading)
    RAM: 32 GB
Hard Drives: 2x 120 GB SSD
This server lacks in the cores (of your minimum specs)

Honestly, I'd say optimize your MySQL because not having MySQL optimize will cost you a TON of money later.

Edit: If you seriously did optimize it to the full extent you can (which I personally kinda doubt), then I'd say first go for the OVH one.

  • ok, then let me try first optimizing SQL, let me open a discussion if someone offer that service =)

    thanks to all

  • Why on earth do you need "12-16" cores? VPS cores are not dedicated, so that's a worthless metric in most scenarios.

Lots of people think they are..... . running java processes that consume two whole cores and such....

    +1 for Edis
+1 for @prometeus (they recently started offering offloaded SQL, which could be used to help you reduce your server load)

If you're OK with US East Coast then BuyVM may be a good option (again because of offloaded SQL).

If there's any chance to optimize SQL first, that's definitely a good idea!

its 8 core, 16GB ram, but near the budget 38,99 euro

  • You don't need 12-16 cores, you obviously don't know that CPU is not utilized as you expect it to do.
You would be better of with a www.kimsufi.co.uk
2 or more cores with some decent Ghz is pretty much the same as lots of shared cores.
Also, you don't need SSD, RAM buffer does it for you.
For $100/mo you can get a really nice dedi at OVH.

    This.

Willing to bet anything I don't have to pay for that you can squeeze more out of your existing server.

    A few more suggestions:
    - Memory tables
    - Memcache
    etc.

  • @BronzeByte said: Also, you don't need SSD, RAM buffer does it for you.

Right, he needs regular disks, and LOTS of ram so he can cache a lot of tables :)

  • @Corey

Be honest: most sane apps use lot of random MySQL, but only a few use a lot of storage AND randomly.

  • for example i had 2 months ago,

    core i7 (8cores)
    16gb ram
    1tb hard drive

    and load was on 7-10,

ram usage was at max 2Gb of those 16.

  • @dedicados what is the mix of database transactions?

  • @dedicados,

Optimize your sql server configs, then your database schema, then your sql statements,

I did all these and get my application triple faster than it was, check my app here...

  • well, im going to optimize my sql and tables, and if stills high load, then get a dedicated like the one of ovh

    32gb ram
    ssd disks
    Core: E3-1245 v2 <- this model is a almost the same of the i7 3820 i had.

  • would probably be cheaper and you would have more space to build your own server with a raid10 array of regular disks and colo it somewhere than to rent a dedi from someone.

    @tinyray

hello, i use 2 scripts to check mysql:

    1.- MySQLTuner 1.2.0 - Major Hayden
    2.- MYSQL PERFORMANCE TUNING PRIMER

    this are the last results,
    http://pastebin.com/zXqDFPZb

of course i need to wait more time to do again the test, and check.

    @craigb
transactions are moved into 3 different levels of sites

TOPSITE <- here im doing tune up right now.
    |
principal <- this is the one with high load
    |
    many sites here 1, 2, 3, 20, 40

  • here is the last info from scripts

    http://pastebin.com/WDbmuy2S

  • Spend $100 and pay somebody on here to optimize it

(People who posted solutions on here would likely jump at the offer and honestly, I'd pitch such an offer. May cause a bidding war down to $50, your initial budget haha)

  • @bamn reverse auctions :)

Honestly, probably the smartest way to spend that money.

Better investment in the long run since he will get to keep his stuff on a LEB.
