you are offering the whole cpu usage for $6? (since it's 4 core)

what are the actual limits? do you limit mhz or something

  • komputerkingkomputerking Member, Host Rep

As long as the load on the server is less than 2 (via the top command) and it is not being run continuously at 2, your usage should be fine, and burst usage is fine.

If we receive server warnings about cpu usage, we will investigate, but as long as your usage is within reason, no problems.

  • kvm user will not know node load and it's quite easy to go over 2 for an extended period.

  • komputerkingkomputerking Member, Host Rep

It is based on their own top command. When we check, we recognize the high load, and then check several hours later. If it is still the same amount, then we warn, and potentially suspend based on how high the abuse is.

  • what about encoding and stuff?

  • komputerkingkomputerking Member, Host Rep

If you are able to limit the cpu usage to within reason, we have no problem with that.

If you'd like, you are welcome to order a KVM, get ready to test out an encoding, and contact me via our live chat, and I can monitor and see if your requirements are going to cause an issue.

Regardless, I am sure we can work something out if your intention is to run lots of encoding.

What is the location of the DC?
I am worried because it may not have good peering to farther countries (e.g. Australia)...

  • komputerkingkomputerking Member, Host Rep

No, these KVM servers, at this level, do not allow for Windows Install.

    The location is Montreal.

you can test your connection speed at the following url

The OVH datacentre in Beauharnois, Quebec, Canada. Beauharnois is part of Greater Montreal. Just about every offer listed as "Montreal" uses OVH Beauharnois. There are some great DCs in the city core, but I guess OVH wins out on pricing.

    True :)
Do you have an SLA uptime guarantee?

                    /

        that'd be a plus

Their equipment is also quite good, and yes, the pricing is quite good as well. Plus that most of their stuff is completely automated makes it great to deploy additional servers very easy

Our SLA we currently offer is the traditional 99.9%. The only time there are any issues, is with the DC itself. Sometimes things happen with networks, or a hard drive needs to be replaced in the RAID, but especially with OVH, we order servers with RAID 1 across 3 drives to secure and protect data, and obtain an increase in IO

  • Do you have any lower spec. plans? Also, would there be yearly pricing?

(I am quite forgetful with my payments)

  • komputerkingkomputerking Member, Host Rep

I can create a lower spec plans. We have them available on our KVM page. As far as yearly pricing, I can see what I can do based on what the lower spec plan you are requesting, is

I am asking this because I (realistically) only need 1 core and around 128-512MB of RAM.

Also, can you set-up a LookingGlass pae rather than just a test file?

  • I'd be interested to see yearly pricing for a single-core 512MB KVM, maybe 15 GB disk & 200 GB transfer. Usage is lowend webhosting :)

  • komputerkingkomputerking Member, Host Rep

@Doghouch, would that kind of server that sleddog request be useful to you as well? If so, I can make a package that fits that bill

  • I'm still interested to see a price... thanks :)
