Samsung SSDs would have been cheaper.

Quadranet are all about performance and the most reliable gear they can get... They don't scrimp on hardware. At all.

    Each or the whole lot?

  • Wow! Brand new hardware.

If they think that they offer better quality, fine.

Other sources don't really say the same:

We've deployed thousands of Samsung ssds and thousands of Intel ssds. The failure rates are very low for both brands.

  • pbgbenpbgben Member, Host Rep

Its not so much the failure rate between the ssds, its the consistent performance. Last time I checked, intel had the advantage.

Yes sir, 100% brand new, purchased outright! :)

tr1cky said: Samsung SSDs would have been cheaper.

Agreed, however the overall quality would not be on par with the Intel S3710's enterprise SSD's, we are not talking about regular Intel SSD's here, these are the top of the line DC edition SSD's that are designed for enterprise/server environments. Literally one of the best SSD's that money can buy.

FWIW those 800GB Intel S3710's retail at over $1389 a pop, which is more than double to what Samsung's cost for their 1TB. It costs that much more for a reason, pure quality. And people who appreciate quality and care about their mission-critical servers buy them, otherwise Intel wouldn't continue to develop the edition.

  • Really @boernd? I have one in my computer right now (a Samsung SSD, two 1TB Seagate drives, and a ADATA SSD).

In my opinion (imo), I give a salute to Samsung for the amazing SSD. On the side note, what I don't give one to is to their stupid Galaxy S, S2, S2X, S3 LTE, and S4 (the worst phones I have ever purchased, ever. I liked my ol' reliable [flippy phone]).

  • Those seagates made me sick. Other than that, looking good!

These are enterprise Seagate edition drives designed for 24x7 server environments - this is not your average Seagate drive used in desktop computers :p We've had a very good experience with the ES.3's and use them almost exclusively for our SATA drives. All of our customers (including many of the fellow providers on here who are using our dedicated servers to provide VPS to their customers) have been pleased with the performance and reliability with them as well. I haven't seen a single complaint.

Constellation ES.3 enterprise drives are not to be associated with the negative stigma associated with the cheap Barracuda's - so don't let that fool ya :)

ES.3's have bad ass performance and reliability - best SATA drive around right now, by far. WD, and HGST have nothing to match them. That's the reason I introduced them and QN has continued using them.

i like re4 more than es3 but it is my personal opinion.

Explain why? RE4 is old even, WD has a replacement for it already!
    RE4 reliability not as good as ES.3, RE4 = 64MB Cache, ES.3 = 128MB Cache

You just like the cheapness and slower performance better or what? Ford Mustang vs Ferrari 458?

@ItsChrisG Well, never not a single one died with me. That is why i like them. However you are right, ES.3 is faster. I will always pick ferrari, but also i would pick re4 again if i can. Actually ordered 8 new ones 3 weeks ago for really good price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/261499951289?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

    Idk, i just love them.
