Transfer a domain away from webnames.ru? Any Russian on here?

tr1ckytr1cky Member

Hello,

I'm trying to find a way to transfer a domain away from webnames.ru.
Unfortunately their knowledgebase is in Russian and I crawled through the Google translation and it didn't really help.

Is there anyone using webnames.ru and knows how to get an auth/epp code for a domain there? Or is there a Russian here that can have a look if the knowledgebase has any info on transfering domains away from them?

That's their knowledgebase: https://www.webnames.ru/en/help/faq

Regards

tr1cky

Here are your instructions (point #5): https://www.webnames.ru/domains/transfer_ru
You have to send a paper letter to them, using this template:
    https://www.webnames.ru/scripts/show_letter.pl?letter=pers_rt_to_any
with a notarized signature on it.

rm_ is right. Because the procedure is not fun, it's still a good idea if you show us a screenshot of their admin/dns. I can also ask my friend a login to nic.ru, hopping the idea could be the same.

Also what is the reason that you want to change registrars? If just to get a better renewal price, then maybe you can find someone from the list of their partners: https://www.webnames.ru/partner/reseller_list
who offer lower prices than them directly (with some registrars this is an extremely common practice).
And transferring the domain within the registrar to/between their partners is much easier:
    point #3 in https://www.webnames.ru/domains/transfer_ru
Just need to ask by E-Mail and attach a copy of your ID.
For example if you transfer to ru-tld (also a partner), https://ru-tld.ru/en/tsenyi-na-prodlenie-domenov/
you can then renew at 125 RUB/year ($2.3).

Well, I want to transfer a .ws domain and I don't really know if it's the same process for that, as I believe there are special processes for Russia's domain extensions and I don't know if .ws falls under that. I hope it doesn't, as I can't send them my ID.

I want to change registars because the site I host gets a lot of people angry and there's also some content that could be considered "anti-russian".
Also the domain-registrar I wanted to use is more than twice as cheap and provider better privacy-protection and has a better history of dealing with abuse.

Weird that there's no way to get the auth code, as far as I can see other providers simply provide auth-codes for .ws and don't make it such a hassle to leave them.

The paperwork stuff shouldn't apply to .ws. Check maybe you already have some way in your panel to get EPP. Or contact their support and ask about it.

It's Russia, they may require paperwork for all zones. Try to obtain EPP on your control panel and unblock your domain before transfer. .ws is enough complicated zone and if you face troubles you can't get help from ICANN.

What's registrar you would like to transfer your domain to?
