Shouldn't this be under requests since you want an account?

  • Not selling my account. I've got one at ovh, three at online.net. Imo, online.net support is friendlier, not partial to Europeans, their stocks are replenished faster. Kimsufis have lower setup costs.

  • I really like them both but prefer online.net for the support. I also like their customer panel for settings/billing.

  • Which one would be better to choose if i want to do live audio and video streaming on the same server?

Both are comparable. Online support and network are maybe a bit better at times.

I prefer the 1gb burst at Online.net but in terms of encoding/transcoding that would depend on the exact systems your looking at.

  • @wych will the ovh 100Mbs not good compared to the 1gb port?
My concern is stable network without packet loss issues and unlimited traffic.

online.net are way better - no setup verification bullshit, I've never had to provide my drivers license or passport or whatever to online.net and setup is instant. OVH with their "papers please!" bullshit can fuck off

I did for Online.net to be allowed more than one server.

That would be very inaccurate. They're one of the best in the industry in terms of value per dollar invested. Yes they do request verification documents, and that's a nuisance.

I didn't. I've got three servers there, and online.net never asked for proof of identity.

    If you say so. ;)

    Maybe its a "random selection".

    Not random. Statistics, I'd say.

Both "suck" equally. Great price but the support can be somewhat stuck-up and useless. Online.net has worse peering in my experience, so even though my online.net box has 1gbps I had faster download speeds from kimsufi (although kimsufi speeds and ping vary greatly and randomly sometimes).

What level of support you need ? Some kind of uniwebhosting?

I don't need support at all if everything works lol

    What was the problem?

OVH support has never helped with anything :D Everything had to fix itself automatically, my complaints had no effect whatsoever. I think they got rid of the obnoxious kimsufi forum support, at least.

Online.net hmm can't remember but it was similar. There are quite a few threads about it here, too (the credit card thing and they dont have spare parts for the promo servers or something)

    http://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/47133/new-online-net-limited-edition-server-eur-19-99-pm-no-setup-fee/p9

and they were unfriendly here as well as in ticket :(

They are both good, at long as nothing breaks. :-)

At least if something breaks at Online you'll get a reply vs SoYouStart/Kimsufi, can't really speak for their 'OVH' premium brand but my 'Classic' and 'Cloud' VPS's that I owned with them have had slow responses...

Does OVH only have OpenVZ for their VPS?

    Their cloud range isn't OpenVZ

  • I agree that support is better at Online.net.
The user interface is pretty much on par, it's a matter of preference.

But based on my experience the network of OVH is substantially better (at least in Gravelines). For some reason I can't pull more than 1.5-1.8 MB/s from the Dutch Academic network. My Gravelines server so far always maxed out with 100 Mbit/s. Testfiles from Roubaix and Strasbourg gave me comparable results.

Besides that, I had a friend testing the speeds in Japan and my Kimsufi delivered decent speeds of around 3-4 MB/s, while Online.net was stuck with 800 KB/s.

I am well aware of the fact that this is definitely not some scientific research, but if you need good global connectivity I'd rather go for OVH. I can at least confirm that they improved, when I got my Kimsufi, connectivity to AS6830 was terrible while now it's pretty okay.

You could pop on the Online irc and speak to Online's networking guru Mikmak if you think there's an issue.

Although OVH is bigger so does have better routing as they're bigger. I've never had an issue with Online personally.

  • I think OVH is better if you want multi IPs like 256 IPv4 cheap or multi location like France or Canada also OVH will open new DC in US in 2016 I just saw this tweet

Online have better network speed also better panel only have once issue with server which died and got replaced. also Online.net support is faster it takes few hours or minutes to answer while OVH even week+

I can see one of their DC will be in NY but not much info in tweet probably need to wait for official news on their website.

It sure would have been a lot nicer if the second datacenter was located on the West Coast this time.
