500GB VPS/Dedicated - Backups and small web hosting

hawchawc Moderator, LIR

Hi all,

Looking for either a Dedicated box or a VPS, that has

  • 250 -500GB Storage
  • A network test file
  • London Location (Or Northern Europe except France)
  • Does not need a lot of RAM

My budget is whatever you can offer me at a low cost.

Thanks
Harry

Vultr now do a KVM with 500GB storage in the Netherlands for $20 a month. Seems like a decent deal. I think backupsy charge about the same amount but with less resources (ram cpu)

In the end, I went for a VPS from @Infinity . All been well and support has been fine, but the server died sometime between last night and this morning and has been down for over 4 hours now. SolusVM is also not working now too.

Are you f-cking kidding, I have to wonder. The going rate for 500 GB storage KVM is about $7/month. There have been multiple offers like that on LET/LEB from different providers. And even then, I'd say it's a tad expensive, since you can get a 500GB dedi for less (don't start about RAID). $20 is just a ridiculous ripoff, not a "decent" deal.

You do know Backupsy also charges $20 for their 500GB plan with 1TB less BW and 1.5GB less ram and you can't use it for stuff other than backups unless you pay an extra $2 so how is it a rip off again?

Indeed, backupsy was the host I was comparing it with

The node in question had a RAID failure, all is rebuilt and online now. I am aware that it took longer than it should have, you should have received some e-mails regarding this during the issue and you will receive a full explanation and SLA in due course.
