What's the cheapest TLD to buy + retain?

Something that is cheap to buy and cheap to renew (and not just with special offers at the moment, I mean standard price).

I would prefer WHOIS privacy too.

Domain prices, specially the cheapest dont compete much between each other in terms of prices, are generally between 8 and 10$

You can get those first year 1$ so sales

All these new TLD's are scam, the majority of them are longer and cost the double or triple in comparisson to the common .com/.net/.org

I recommend you https://www.namesilo.com/, its one of the cheapest registars and offers WHOIS privacy forever

You can go for http://www.freenom.com if you want a free TLD like .tk/.ml/.ga/.cf/.gq
Never had a problem with them and work like any other domain

.ru/.рф is 90 roubles -- $1.6/year recurring, with free whois privacy included.
https://ru-tld.ru/en/kak-kupit-domen/ accepts Paypal but (as most or all others) may require a scan of your ID document (e.g. passport). See also: http://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/35293/ru-registration

    Thats really cheap!

But I'll never give my real ID documment to a random company which I do not trust

I really dont understand why do they ask for it

    Is there a way around?

Is there much difference between using any of those free TLD's from freenom and any other country TLD for generic proposes that are not targetting any country?

    Google doest rank TLD's diferently

Not to provide a real ID. Careful if you're looking to sell it, though.

You also have the .ovh domain

0.99€ first year and 2.99€ the next ones

    http://www.ovh.ie/domains/dotovh.xml

    3,99€ per year for .uk

    http://www.ovh.ie/domains/dotuk.xml

  • Wow, the .ohv domains are certainly cheap. Does anybody here use AFNIC or know more about them?

    Hello!

We will offer special price for .RU domains - 59 RUB (1$) on 10 and 11 of June 2015.

You can order unlimited number of domains.

.info currently is $2.62 first year at crazydomain, then it's expensive but they often had good deals on renewal don't remember the pricing but around 2$ per year up to 10 years.

Right now it's more expensive though, and I don't know if they'll have their offer again in the future.

.COM will be your best bet, use some good registrar for low prices on renewals too, such as NameSilo, Internet.bs.

You can use Uniregistry, they have pretty good interface and pricing and free whois privacy for $10.88 registrations and renewals.

    See https://uniregistry.com/pricing

For buy and renewal of TLD go with GoDaddy.com becasue its price is the cheapest in the market.

For example, if you purchase .com TLD from it then you have to pay only $9.16 for .com domain name registration with domain privacy.

You will definately get its coupon at http://www.domain_was_here_but_now_it_is_gone.com/store/godaddy.com

Are you kidding? .COM renewals are not cheap. They're not comparable to domains like .ru.

If you can't pay $10 for .COM don't bother to register a domain. I gTLD is much better than ccTLD. .ru is nor Comparable to .COM.

.ru domain should only be used if your target visitors are in Russia.

I presents idvs.me(Namesilo Resller) with $9.99/yr, new/transfer/renewal at the same price for net/com/org/info/biz/pw/xyz, while GoDaddy and Namecheap are having their expensive promo.

Great, but what do your Minecraft spam have to do with the topic?

(Off topic due to some annoying) Thanks for "forking" this thread out...

**SNIP to avoid things getting worse**

EDIT: Sorry for the tone, I misunderstood that.

EDIT 2: It's a sarcasm, not really wanna provide that while Namesilo already have 8.99/yr

OP is asking about affordable domains. The website you mentioned is some sort of Minecraft forum.

  • I have a few AFNIC domains. Never had any issues with them, but keep in mind that until you buy them they are not registered in your name (i.e. can be taken away at any time). That's why I mostly use them for test projects.

I think .ro still has pay once own forever (no renewal) so that will be cheapest.
There is a huge difference between ccTLD and gTLD when it comes to reliability. ccTLD is backed by a country, which can be a good or a bad thing, while gTLD is backed either by a company or an organization. In case of a company owner (Verisign and all the new stupid long names owned by random companies) it can give in to pressure or money to take away your domain. If it is one of the new domains then there is even a good chance the company will go bankrupt in a few years (ex. .sucks) and take your domain with them.

For reliability I will always choose .is,.ch,.li,.se . These are domains that have almost never been taken away from their rightful owners, no matter the circumstances. Your domain is like your name. Will you be willing to change your name if somebody who doesn't like you says so? Why would you take the chance with your domain?

  • If you are planning to retain, go for .com, as it has been the web standards and will always be.

His ultimate choice would be a .COM and $10 is not expensive to retain a .COM.

  • Hello,

    NameSilo support

    Hmm, that's their reason.

@MrX It's just a 302, if you dig deeper, you'll found that domain is a shell. And sorry for misunderstood.
