How many connections per second is acceptable by VPS provider?

I read many threads about VPS abuse, someone complains host, host complain customers etc.

  1. Bandwidth abuse (too much consumption of bandwidth, may be streaming?)
  2. CPU Overuse (running processor intensive application)
  3. Memory overuse (RAM), any one concern if the VPS is consuming more memory?
  4. Disk I/O
  5. Do you have limits on number of socket/tcp connections? Or how many connections per second is acceptable

Anything else to be considered as abusive on resources (network, computer). Excluding adult, banned contents, torrents, stuffs altogether)

    1. Most hosts have either a gigabit or 100mbps port. 99% of the time, unless it is stated that the port is dedicated, the port is fair use. That means that the port is shared by other customers on the VPS node, and is not for you alone. Maxing out the port 24/7 will slow down other customers. Some hosts have policies regarding this (esp with torrenting)

    2. Not really any need to explain that

    3. Only on shared hosts. If your on a VPS and the provider says your using too much RAM, that just means their overselling and can't deal with you using up all your allocated RAM. That also means its time to find a new provider.

    4. If your drilling into their disk at 1Gbps constantly, others will have issues. Same principle as point 1.

    5. Some providers have connection limits, some will be highly irritated if you open 100 ssh connections as this causes their security systems to trip and go crazy
