Looking for a good deal on a VPS to run cPanel dns-only
Hello, I'm looking for a VPS to run cPanel dns-only server, it must be hosted on a reliable/nonoverloaded server/network.
Requirements:
Minimum of 256MB RAM (will be using CentOS 6.3)
Minimum 5-10GB HDD
IPv6 is a must
rDNS for both IPv4 & IPv6 is a must
40-60ms tops to Iceland (you can ping/traceroute 213.181.99.243)
Offers & suggestions welcome to this thread or via PM.
Thank you.

Try using Hostigation or Prometeus, they are awesome.
BuyVM also has some stock these days.
Edit: For iceland ping, try EaseVPS.
Due to your ping requirements you'll need a VPS in the EU (UK will be best). Prometeus was already suggested, it has a ping of 75ms to Iceland. DE will have a ping of ~60ms.
If you want a really good ping get a VPS in Island directly. The only providers i know that offer it are Edis.at (3ms ping) and urpad
Ease dont offer Iceland. Urpad do I think
From EaseVPS
ping
Yeah, I know of Edis, don't think they offer rDNS on IPv6 though. I'm also looking at the recent offer from Castlegem here, in Hannover but it's not mentioned if Hannover has IPv6. URpad doesnt have IPv6 in Iceland.
Their IPv6 for Iceland location is tunneled via London HE point, not native.
So you can get another /64 or even /48 routed with HE tunnelbroker,
and edit rDNS for them by yourself.
England or netherland should be good, most depend from the routing logic which sometime aren't logic at all but follow the carrier convenience :P
Hehe indeed.
Denmark could be even better, as there is a good connection to Iceland via
'Danice submarine cable', ping around 30 ms. But at the same time, not sure
how easy is it to find some suitable VPS deals here.
TinyKVM:
That's London, so I'm guessing the nearer to LINX you can get, the better.
@emilv , try LoveVPS.com - they have UK and US box's , for us we have had fantastic support and Matthew is a great
Dave
I appreciate the mention, But I can see about 46/47ms to Iceland from our Manchester Location, Just a few features that I would like to point out, We have a Gbit uplink that is connected to our switch, we're the only ones in the cabinet, Decent I/O, and disregarding the recent DDOS have had zero problems.
IPv6 did work originally, But since our switch is Layer 2, It has a few issues with IPv6, It's like 50/50 some times it decides to work and then the next day it could be completely unreachable.
I will confirm with someone tomorrow when he is online, I think he managed to get IPv6 working for him self on his website
Thanks for the interest, we are looking forward to having IPv6 later this year in Iceland. An email will be sent out to all clients residing in that facility once IPv6 becomes available.
Thanks,
Chris.M
AWS EC2?
Minimum of 256MB RAM (will be using CentOS 6.3)
Minimum 5-10GB HDD
I would caution you to heed the system hardware requirements for cPanel&WHM, which also applies to cPanel DNS ONLY: System Requirements for Installing cPanel & WHM
If your system does not meet the minimum requirements then you may not receive direct support from cPanel, such as free complimentary support, until your server is made to meet the required minimum specifications. Insufficient RAM will affect the performance and stability of your server.
I run cPanel DNS Only on 192 MB ram and It just work
i am running cpanel dns on a 128MB/256MB openVZ VPS for past 1.5+ years. running well with yum updates and cpanel upgrades..
While cPanel DNS ONLY can still work, the performance and stability may not be optimal, and on such a system you run the risk of not being able to receive support, but that's a risk you weigh as the server administrator. Whether or not you need support is something to consider when deploying a new system; for example, if someone may be less experienced with certain software, he or she may want to take extra precautions should there be any need to contact applicable upstream vendors, while for those with the necessary experience and working knowledge of the systems involved, he or she may very well never require assistance.
OpenVZ certainly makes it easier to use a VPS with less RAM allocated to the container.
As Iceland is from our own IPv6 space i can set you a few rdns records if you need them.
Sadly, not going to happen (same to us) - The core routers of Thor & Advania do not even support software routed v6 and are far away from HW support (you can guess now how old they are)
Thanks William, that would indeed be the best option for me. I'll put in a order later today or tomorrow. Do you have any discount if paid annually?
I have 2 DNS-Only working with 256RAM VPSs but no BIND9 (is unestable with this ram)
