HostSolutions.ro - An Initial Review

Hi, I just wanted to give my thoughts and an initial review of HostSolutions.ro because there seemed to be some discussion but no customers coming forward with their thoughts.
(I am new to the VPS world so this is really geared towards other newbies, so you veterans take what you want)
I chose them for there policy on the DMCA (basically they don't care) and the price, the great price.
I took advantage of their 2GB of Ram, 30GB HD, 2 CPUs, Unmetered (probably capped at 30TB) deal for about $7 every 3 months so a little more than $2 a month, I think that's pretty good on it's own on top of their liberal policies (except for Porn, they don't seem to like Porn lol). I signed up, my account was created in about 10 minutes. Their OpenVZ conrol panel is integrated in their Services panel, which is nice, just login once and has tons of languages.

And speaking of languages, twice I made a ticket and both were answered in about 5 minutes, and by people who wrote perfect English and were very kind.
For example, I noticed that they only had Debian 7 x64, I prefer x86, so I installed it. It came with Apache and some mail service running, I didn't like that (I like my installations bare), so I made a ticket about adding Debian 7 Minimal, and lo and behold it appeared as an option in less than 10 minutes. Now that's service. Hopefully I don't need to contact them again, but at least I know Marin or some other friendly tech will be on the other side.

So those are the Pros, what about the Cons?
Well I'm in Florida (USA) and they're in Romania so the connection is a little slow between myself and my node.
My ping latencies are high 100s like 150 or more. (Doesn't affect my Wordpress sites loading though)
As for general speed it's all over the place so I'll leave these tests:

CPU model : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5650 @ 2.67GHz
Number of cores : 2
CPU frequency : 2666.964 MHz
Total amount of ram : 2048 MB
Total amount of swap : 512 MB
System uptime : 25 min,
Download speed from CacheFly: 9.79MB/s
Download speed from Coloat, Atlanta GA: 2.32MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Dallas, TX: 1.35MB/s
Download speed from Linode, Tokyo, JP: 1.83MB/s
Download speed from i3d.net, Rotterdam, NL: 8.56MB/s
Download speed from Leaseweb, Haarlem, NL: 6.76MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Singapore: 2.02MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Seattle, WA: 3.01MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, San Jose, CA: 2.44MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Washington, DC: 3.52MB/s
I/O speed : 74.8 MB/s

If you have any questions or tests you want me to do, I'll see what I can do.
Hopefully this is helpful for someone and hopefully the good service will continue. :)

@Rocky you have some proof ???? i have the proof when you flooding in the morning with with 128k and we let you 5 min to stop this scripts ... what you do ?? nothiung ! worst flood afternoon you start with 560 k

@Rocky if you want we atache here our discutions in the tikets ! Any hosting company has once against flooding terms and conditions do not think you / would have given 2 chance but you dont stop to flooding ,

@niknar1900 thanks You're the only one who noticed how quickly the response

aaaa can you prove this too ??? " So I told Paypal and opened a dispute against them and lucky that I got my money back" we win the dispute too in paypal ! and yes i have proof

@Rocky what about this thread you passed the same with another company ??? all hosting is bad for you ? http://lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/909009/#Comment_909009

@Lee i think when shomeone acuse need proof no ??? whay this guy acuse our company if do not have proof ? i have the proof when he do flood from our nodes . I am the owner of this company this is my interes , we work hard to give good price and good quality and when i see what is lie here ..... i am still waiting some proof

  • LeeLee Veteran

@cociu - Ok well that makes sense now, I did not know you were the provider.

@niknar1900 - Need to see some of that proof you have.

  • I can support @cociu and I can confirm what @niknar1900 wrote.

I was very interested in a Romania location and I grabbed a VPS with hostsolutions.ro.
I experienced some minor hiccups in the beginning as it seems they were doing some fine tuning but support was in (good) english and quick and friendly.

Can't tell about porn or other "grey zone" stuff because I do just very boring stuff but I'd assume that cociu and his team are rather generous in that regard.

As for the latency, well, about 150 ms is actually quite great from Europe to florida (the Atlantic alone eating about 90 or 100 ms ...).

Btw.: I might be mistaken but I'm under the impression that hostsolution is running their own DC. If that's correct then that's something I really like and which puts hostsolution above many competitors.

Give me some 2 or so more weeks and I'll have gathered enough experience to write a full review ;)

Did you mix up niknar1900 (who just wrote a short review) and Rocky (who seems to be a serial complainer and trouble maker)?

  • LeeLee Veteran

I did, never noticed the tagged on part was @rocky. removed it.

  • I received my KVM last night.
Did a VNC install and I'm checking out routes to various other locations.

Routes seem pretty sane. 30ms to OVH/Amsterdam/UK

Bandwidth seems capped at 100M but that's OK considering I'm getting minimum 25-30M transit from far off places like Singapore , hongKong, mexico.

    Also, IP was clean.

    CPU is snappy (2.66Ghz X5650).
Using latest PHP source decompression, recompression as mini-benchmark:

time tar xf php-5.6.6.tar.gz real 0m1.730s user 0m0.838s sys 0m0.823s

time tar czf php.tar.gz php-5.6.6/ real 0m3.922s user 0m3.380s sys 0m0.277s //Speedy because of Disk cache being primed (yay RAM!)

sync; echo 3 >/proc/sys/vm/drop_caches //flushed caches to try again

time tar czf php.tar.gz php-5.6.6/ real 0m14.401s user 0m3.574s sys 0m3.379s//good show for HDD

Let me sort out the virtio enable/loading before posting more complete data about disk IO.

@cociu : Your company could really use someone like a SMM(social media manager?).

Some potential clients may be scared off by your no-bullshit personality.

    I am guessing it's just a cultural/language gap.

I hope the spammers and DDOS skids don't ruin your IP space after posting offers on LET.

A new player in Romania is a good addition to LE(T/B) buzz.

I really want sincere providers to succeed.

Its true , but we tray to sell quality in the first place , and i am not here to "scared" the true clients , what i dont support is lies and when acuse someone i thinck is correct to provide some proof. Its preatty hard to construct a name today and come this guy and atack our company without proof , i have the proof he didn*t win the paypal dispute, and YES he tray to flooding . In the morning i tray to speach with him to stop this activity and he promise to stop (flooding 128k). Afternoon he start flooding with 560k so I do not think it deserves my respect after he was given a 2 chance.
