Well done @Nick_A - my ISP has a few extra hops in it as they transit PCCW in San Jose back to LA. They do transit NTT in LA so maybe they are trying to use the cheaper PCCW link instead.

My Crissic box beats you by a couple of hops and 8-10ms, but only as I am direct into LA & then Any2 Peer.

I realise it is very very early days, but any chance of some quality peers in LA? Equinix & Any2 would be really good for any of us Aussies with iiNet/Internode.

Ping from work's NTT bandwidth (GlobalSwitch, Sydney) is impressive:

    Tracing route to lg.la.ramnode.com [168.235.72.22]
    3 2 ms 4 ms 3 ms ge-0-0-0-107.a06.sydnau01.au.ra.gin.ntt.net [202.68.66.241]
    11 138 ms 138 ms 138 ms test.la.ramnode.com [168.235.72.22]

I am probably going to push myself back to Amsterdam now for a diversity box as my Iniz NL box is massively overloaded and slow. The service on RamNode is always extremely good. It's not the cheapest, but it rates #1 on here for a reason.

EDIT: RamNode Site under VERY HEAVY LOAD...... unsurprisingly!

  • Pure NTT inbound ?

No, he has PCCW and NTT. Did you not read the announcement link?

  • Voxility filtering in LA would be nice.

PCCW Peering preferred over NTT Transit.

Traceroute before Nick brought up PCCW here:

Yeah, just as I thought. PCCW is definitely cheaper bandwidth, but coming from NTT in AU it goes straight through as it should. Strangely, I go thru LA and via NTT to Seattle....

Anyway, another peer in LA would be great, and hopefully another transit provider too.

Peering at Equinix or Any2 would be pretty cool.

    An additional EU location ;-)

  • @DennisD @mpkossen

    Yeah thats what I meant:P

  • mpkossen said: An additional EU location ;-)

Maybe a non-US, non-EU location might be a better idea. Japan, Singapore, Australia.

Unfortunately it might end up being Eastern Europe - costs are low there.

    Thanks everyone!

We just launched this location with minimal routing optimization (waiting on feedback). Please send us a ticket if you see any routing issues, and we'll see what can be done. We always expect to have at least a few strange routes when launching a new location.

Yeah someone felt like hitting the looking glass for the last 8 hours or so.

Too expensive and not much room to negotiation.
