    Hello,
for a few months I was a silent reader here and now I think the time has come to sign up finally.

I want to contribute to the community by benchmarking exotic vps locations and writing reviews about them.

I think that we have a demand for that.

  • Just wanted to stop by and stay that I've finally registered after reading several posts about hosts not living up to their name! Hope you see more from me..

    Hello,

I'm Jeck from Philippines. A Junior student in a local college taking up IT. This forum helps me a lot especially on Linux related topics and managing VPS also. We didn't tackle Linux yet in class but I'm already managing VPN servers on CentOS VPS's since 2011. Hope to improve more with the help of forums' tutorials like in this site. Thanks. ;)

I've been lurking in LET for a while and finally decided to join. Picked up a few VPS from providers recommended by LET and LEB members. Also, I've learned quite a bit about managing servers from the forum. Additionally, I discovered all the drama in the low end segment of the industry, haha.

  • Hello everyone. My name is Rob, and I notice a real lack of high performance VMware hosts around here, I hope to change that with my ESXi/vcenter licensed machines with gigabit uplinks and cheap add-ons. :)

I've been in the shared hosting industry for over a decade and since the friends company we were with went under, we decided it was time to go dedicated. Now we just need people to fill us up and expand our business.

  • Hi all. My name is Ari. I live in Sweden and specialise in XML in my day job. I've been lurking around here to find a good low-end VPS and learn how to admin it. I want to run an XML database (eXist-DB) for dev purposes and so have been trying to figure out if OpenVZ is suitable for my needs. All the best.

  • Hi, I'm - the nick suggests it - a happy BSD user (mostly FreeBSD). I've been interested in and running VPS since about 4 years.
I discovered LEB pretty early and found it very interesting from day 1 because it matches nicely with my philosophy (no gimmicks, SSH will do, KISS, ...). To put it differently: I have a 6-core Desktop running FreeBSD and although I have plenty, plenty RAM (8 GB) I use Openbox or jwm without a desktop manager. Of course, I could easily run a fully blown KDE but I don't like that. I like it frugal.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not in the "64MB RAM is damn enough" sports; I do like a little luxury and I love to have some reserves. I just don't think that one needs more than a 128MB VPS for, say, a DNS server and backup MX for a couple dozen domains. And experience has shown me correct so far.

I also wrote some reviews at LEB about my experiences and providers and I always strive to be honest and fair, although I used different screen names during the years, simply because I forgot the old ones (Currently, I wrote as "ruphil").
I'm not, however, making or interested in benchmarks because I've learned during many years that benchmark almost always are shady beasts. On a VPS, for instance, it often very much depends on the current workload of the host.

I've also spent lots of time to study and test diverse applications for the usual jobs like DNS, web, ftp, etc. and as I happen to work in the field of IT security I kept security in mind doing my experiments.

One clear winner is NSD, the (authoritative) dns daemon from RIPE related European people. It's 97% bind syntax compatible and so changing from an unreliable, monstrous, insecurity riddled beast is simple and painless.

The best experiences I've made so far are with Prometeus and Iniz. My vstoike VPS will quite probably also end up on my "best" list but it's a little early to say that with certainty.

    Let's have a good time!

Hello all. As an engineer and author, I have for years benefited from the discussions on lowendtalk.com. After experimenting with several hosting companies over the last month, I feel it's time to give something back. I will do my best to post a qualitative review/comparison of these companies as soon as I can find the time.

  • Hi, I'm Leo and I live in the UK. I source Europe based servers for several clients and I like the laid back mood of LET. Glad to be here, thanks

  • Hello everyone!

I'm Michael, and I'm currently just a software engineer at a local defense contractor, but I really hope to be starting my own low-end webhost soon! Figured I'd sign up here, since the LowEndBox site itself has proven immensely useful in my previous ventures into VPS deployments, and I'd love to give back to the community in any way I can!

Looking forward to talking with everyone!
