Help me out! Should I switch hosts?
Hey guys, sorry for this question kinda noobish and I probably already know the correct answer to it, just wanted your 2cents.
I'm currently renting a dedicated server from YesUpHost, for $49 dollars a month, their service is great! but I want a location more in the US with better peering routes.
Here are the specs I get for $49:
CPU: i3 Dual Core @ 3.10GHz (2 cores, 2 threads)
RAM: 8GB 1333mhz non-ecc
HDD: SATA II 500GB
Connectivity: 1Gbps (peak times I can get 35 - 50MB/s, non peak times ~70MB/s)
Bandwidth: 1TB
The server is being used to host a fairly decent sized Minecraft community with many intense plugins.
Now I was thinking to switch over to a new host, because I wish to try out a new network and hopefully it will be much better in routes it takes.
For $54.99 a month, I can get:
CPU: Dual Xenon L5240 2.5GHz (8 Physical cores total)
RAM: DDR2 8GB ECC 667MHz
HDD: SATA II 500GB
Connectivity: 100Mbps
Bandwidth: 1.5TB
Now since Minecraft isn't multi-threaded I figure that the faster CPU and RAM will win in a speed difference, but well coded Bukkit plugins are multi-threaded, So I'm not sure, but the main reason I want to switch is that I want more of a premium network.
If you guys want to help additionally, can you ping these two IPs , the first one is my current one, in torronto, second one is from the new host I'm looking at.
Torronto, CA: 199.19.94.237
Seattle, WA: 216.244.89.4
Thanks for all your help in advance guys!

try tracerting it from your home and see where it goes through (to figure out the quality basically).
I live all the way down south, but heres basically a summary:
Tracert 1:

Tracert 2:

Seems to be mainly Comcast Vs Cogentco

@Insidiea: how big is the community? How many people do you normally have logged into the server at all times? (on average)
Damn, if that 49$ server was still available it would be great. Make sure if you deside to move to hit me up, they might transfer it to my account, would make a great dev node.
@HalfEatenPie
On average really 10 players, yeah doesn't sound like many but I do have many intense plugins on the server, as well I plan to use the server for other game servers.
@LiquidHost
If I do, I'll keep that server for a few months just so I can have something to go back to, I won't be using it for anything so maybe we could work something out.
Don't fix what isn't broken. Consider buying a new server when you outgrow the current one. Unless users are complaining about ping times?
Another thing you should consider is where your users are located. If the majority are on the East Coast, then moving to the West Coast doesn't seem logical.
@Telephone
Good advice, thanks!
Yeah what I was asking was if the volume of users were what you were worried about. To me it seems like exactly what @telephone is talking about. I wouldn't recommend moving just yet if there isn't complaints.
