Mandrill Garbles MS Office 2007 Appts across domians

When I used the mail servers associated with our hosting to send Microsoft Outlook 2007 Calendar Appts, we had no problem with them being received, even with people who used Macs. Due to delivery problems with our own mail servers, we switched to using the popular service Mandrill. Now appts sent to email addresses on the same domain work, but appts send to recipients on a Mac or a different domain are garbled. Below is an excerpt of what we see instead of the appts, a text file:

BEGIN:VCALENDAR
PRODID:-//Microsoft Corporation//Outlook 12.0 MIMEDIR//EN
VERSION:2.0
METHOD:REQUEST
X-MS-OLK-FORCEINSPECTOROPEN:TRUE
BEGIN:VEVENT

Does anyone have any suggestions besides giving up Mandril to fix this type of problem?

  • For those interested, I ended up getting some help from Mandrill tech support. Apparently, MS uses some custom html to send these appt notices in the body of the email message. Mandrill currently can't process these so they end up garbalized. Support indicated that they might add support this in the future as MS appts are quite popular. However, if you create an .ics appt out of the calendar appt and attach that to an email, it is not garbalized, and works just fine in Outlook and OSX mail and calendar.

  • yes we are experiencing this too :(
