When i used to use IRC (years ago) i was using mostly ircII. BitchX was also popular, but my personal preference was ircII with my own scripts on top of it.
And then you can connect to it with your regular client?
But will multiple networks be separated then, or merged just as in IRSSI itself?
(that is what I want, merged on one connection in my client)

As IRC noob (getting ZNC setup for the first time), what are advantages of irssi (with irssi-client if I understand it correct) over ZNC or shroudBNC?

IMO there's no reason to not run ZNC if you have a shell, you can use irssi with it if that's your preference.
It seemed to me like irssi could function as a bouncer too if you run it with screen. But I like my gui more I think on my mac

Don't you ever have the SSH timeout thingie?
Is it possible to connect with other clients to IRSSI (when it runs as a kinda server) or is it only used as client+bouncer?

A bouncer for 12€/month? Thats cute.
I use X-Chat with ZNC and sometimes IRSSI.

XChat, but I don't use IRC much anymore, I miss NNS though :(.
Not a bouncer. Not 12/mo. Maybe cute.
