Hi,

I recently applied for a EV SSL. They told me to provide Necessary Documents. Do you have any idea how this is proceeded ??

They said to provide Me:

1. Copy of articles of incorporation or other business registration documents.

2. Dun & Bradstreet Number to verify your physical, operational existence and phone number. kindly update your Company name, address and phone number in Dun & Bradstreet

Or,

A Legal opinion signed by your attorney, or a Latin Notary, if you are in a jurisdiction in which a Latin Notary is recognized, or a letter from your Certified Public Accountant. Legal opinion should contain following verifications:

(i) Verifying that the physical address is accurate and that business operations are conducted there

(ii) Verifying the phone number which can be uses to reach your company

(iii) Verifying that you have a current demand deposit account with a regulated financial institution.

I checked the D&B Website for Bangladesh. They ask for USD 500. How this can be charged for a Small Start-up company ?? I can't understand.

The second option is usually easier for non US based businesses. Just have your lawyer sign a document Comodo will send, they will verify it with the lawyer and give you the SSL certificate.

Licenses, registrations, etc. are a cost of doing business. However, you're not specifically required to have a D-U-N-S number for an EV certificate.

Have a look at Comodo's What is required for validation (#3) and EV Certificate Validation Checklist documents.

EV certificates require specific documentation for a reason. Otherwise, the whole premise of that particular type of certificate would be lost.

If $500 is a lot to you then an EV SSL isn't for you. There's no shame in using a normal SSL.

  • @jhadley said: If $500 is a lot to you then an EV SSL isn't for you....

And why is that, pray tell?

    Wrong! useless baseless comment.

I have gone through the process of getting 2 certificates by verifying details of 2 different companies. After you have gotten your company verified you can get certificates with the details of the same company against other website without the need of verifying the company again (you will have to pay for it though).

You can start this entire process by telling comodo that you dont have DUN and you would like to use the lawyer's verification method. Interestingly the lawyer's role can also be substituted by your accountant

Comodo will themselves provide a sample certifying letter you will have to get printed on your lawyer's letterhead with his signatures. MOST IMPORTANTLY make sure that they have a way to check your company's identity number using any of your country's governmental institution website (like the securities & exchange commission , tax numbers if sole proprietor, etc ) + that credentials of the lawyer can be independently verified by some kind of database.

Get your documents attested by a notary public... in Bangladesh it shouldn't cost you more than 100 Taka (20 Taka is the supposed to be fee but you know how it goes)...
Get the sample verification letter as referred by raza19 to aid your notary public in the process

    Thanks All.

@jhadley You don't have any idea of Profit Margin in Bangladesh. So, you're telling like this. No Problem though :) You've a mouth & also have a freedom, you can say whatever you want. Thanks btw :)

@raja19 Thanks for commenting here. I can do everything you said but the problem is In Bangladesh, other than 1 website of verifying Private LTD. Companies, there is no other website to verify business online and as I'm a Sole Proprietor, there's no online database for it. I doubt if it makes any problem.

@ez2uk Yeah, I can do so. Don't mind, are you from Bangladesh??

  • Please note that if you submit fake documents to them, you're contributing to the higher costs of EV SSLs, not that the cost should be something to be worried about for legitimate companies or anything.

  • Chennai, India...

Recently did some paperwork for a friend of a friend who works for a software company in the US...(Same process)

Have done quite a few of the same kind in the UK...

Why to submit fake Documents when I have legitimate business?? I doubt because as Raja said they need something to verify but in Bangladesh, there's no way. If the Govt. has made a Trade License Database, then My Company would be in that list also. And, Tomorrow, I'll consult with a Lawyer of Supreme Court for the rest documents.

if you have a BIN - You can check the status of a company on this link
    http://www.nbr.gov.bd/

**Do you have a VAT registration certificate with your business name and address on it..

A copy of that document is more than enough.. Scan the copy and send it over for comodo verification**

Even if you aren't registered you can register a company in 4 hours according to this document
    http://123.49.32.37:7781/notice/4hrcompany_registration.pdf (document in Bengali)

but I am not sure coz the govt wesite isn't completely functional.

If you have your VAT registration certificate that is all you need to verify the legality of your business entity...

send it over to comodo and you should be all good. If they resist to accept it ask for the issue to be escalated to a manager. A knowledgeable person will accept it straightaway provided the SSL is requested for the same entity in the certificate.

If you are requesting a certificate for a brand name (Trading as "name") which is different (if not present in the incorporation / VAT certificate) to the registered name, you might need to provide additional supporting documents which takes you back to square one

  • bump....
