Linode's guide is pretty complete and has clear explanations. Check it out, and combine it with other ones that have been posted, especially Sealed Abstract's.
VestaCP?
Aside from setting up a mail server for you, it sets up a nice web hosting environment utilising nginx as a reverse proxy.

Without a doubt.

iRedMail is great. You really shouldn't have a desperate need to pick nginx over apache for a mail server, it's really quite insignificant here.
@jarland what? there freepanel is shit, even postfixadmin can do more.
I'm not sure how a functional and perfectly operational panel is "shit" but to each his own I suppose. Maybe ease off the throttle a bit there
thanks a lot, i will try it !!!
thanks a lot, you save my life, vestacp is very friendly for new guy.
thank you, i will try it
as i have been use vps with low ram, so i think nginx is more suitable for me
thank you. yes, i realize the problem just now. the vestacp use apache as webserver,do you have solution for web server? i just see this in vestacp forum
"we plan to support nginx php-fpm in the next release
now this option is not supported yet
we can not say the exact date of release, but I think that this feature will appear in the middle of June 2014"
@lightsmartryan: if you don't mind doing a bit of adjusting, you can modify it to use nginx as web server. See: https://github.com/autronix/Vesta-0.9.8-with-nginx-only Next version of VestaCP with nginx-only support is due to be released June 23.
thank a lot,i wil try it and i am look forward to the next version of vestacp with nginx-only support!!!
