    Never seen that site before. Not bad little machines for that price.

    You could probably find a sempron or even a core2duo to do the trick. An ATOM would use 0.3A (@mitgib ?) but they run $150 - $200 to start.

    I bought http://www.ebay.com/itm/250879012903 to use as a monitoring/repo/nfs/munin/cacti server. A bit out of your price range though.

    @Jack we built about 6 of those recently for around $195 each with 2GB Ram 80GB drives

  • CoreyCorey Member

    @Jack I see - that is unfortunate.

    0.35A and the SM board is $200, add ram/drive/case, $350ish? Go with a sempron or other clearance AM3 chip. If you'll take an AM2 chip, I have dozens you can choose from in SC-512 chassis/2gb ram/pair 80gb drives I'd be happy to sell for $150 shipped anyplace in the US

  • I think I will go with mitgib unless someone offers better.

    CPU and ram are not an issue

    Nope, You can pickup some old servers for pretty cheap on ebay.

    @Jack said: Yes but I'm used to looking at ebay.co.uk , Please do look @ ebay.co.uk when Looking at ebay.co.uk most 1U's go for £200+ well at least the ones I have watched.

  • Low power is what I need, too high and I will blow the breaker on my rack

    Atoms.
    AMD E350-E450.
    Any Celeron/Pentium Dual core (Wolfdale).
    Any i3 Sandy or i5 6xx clarkdale (dunno if i3 5xx works the same).

    Anything else needs a nuclear plant.

    What chip is it?

    Hmm, have you ever seen any of these in an embedded motherboard? I have an E-240 in my laptop and it does fine for that, i'm sure it would be viable for a cheapy dedicated server.

  • JacobJacob Member

    @Jack over 1A, On 240v I highly doubt that.

    Most HP Proliant servers have iLO, Which is similar to IPMI or DRAC.

    Getting supermicro in the UK for a decent price is hard. :(

    You mean, these are laptop processors? No, there are some mobos around with these chips.

    And with the amount of crap I've taken out of service over the past years I still have cluttering up space...... It will be a nice surprise package

  • I recommend IPXCore for hosting. If you need to host a forum, look at mine ;) Insanely fast. IPXCore ftw.
