So, how do you pay the electricity? You have solarpanels on the roof or what?

  • Possibly one of the WORST providers around.

  • nerouxneroux Member

I particularly liked the Live Chat where "Christina" tried to convince me by chatting me up with

Hello, just to let you know our "One Time" fee is a one time cost for life with no monthly recurring.. never pay again.. :)

We have 50% off everything TODAY only

Please use Code LAVIDAD for 50% off.

Though when I asked an actual question silence fell onto the land ;)

All this "one time fee" is a scam. It is like saying, if you pay the cost of 5 months rent, I will let you live to my house for ever and I will pay all the expenses (electricity, phone bills, water, taxes, maintenance etc.)

  • I don't use my cloudatcost vps anymore, it's insanely slow. I tried using it again a few weeks ago and it locked up multiple times while I was just trying to type in a document while in SSH.

I'm not the provider, just someone who signed up. They have some warped logic on their website about how they are able to do this:
    http://www.cloudatcost.com/faqs.php

Running a benchmark as we speak ... and it looks pretty bad!

ah Logic to theft peoples money nice.

It's easy to offer VPS at cost as:

Hardware is only ever a one time investment. It never breaks.
    Bandwidth is free.
    Power is free.
    Space is free.
    IPs are free.
    Christina is free.

    --- Reality ---

Every new sign up is funding the ever growing customer base. What happens when the customer base grows so large that the signup rate no longer pays the bills?

  • Same company who ran Freephoneline.ca which I used for about 15 minutes it was so bad.

Their business model for Freephoneline was the same. Pay a one time $50 dollar free to "unlock" the SIP credentials.

I'm also curious where their servers are located, because if it's here in Ontario, I have no idea how they can claim "power and internet costs are far lower".

Got a test server, last I checked IP geolocates to Kitchener, Ontario. Their blog mentioned solar panels for power, not sure how much truth there is to it ...

    Edit: from ip whois, http://www.kwdatacentre.com/

  • $6 for one year 512MB plan isn't bad either.

Think I would rather pay 50 cents/month then $17.50 one-time.. Thats like prepaying for 3 years..

So the DC is supposed to be in Kitchener, but their website gives the address:

    KW Datacenter

    151 Front St West,

    Toronto Ontario, M5J 2N1.

    Strange ...

151 Front is a large colo building in downtown Toronto, so they might have the business registered there
