Best Mac for me?
I'm in the market for a new Mac, to be used mainly for development. Some of the applications I work on are large/complex and my current MacBook Air is far too slow.
I was originally looking at the Mac Pro (admittedly I was suckered in by the looks) which seemed to be a good fit, but looking closer, I can get a Mac Mini with effectively everything except the GPUs for around half the price. I could also replace my 11" MacBook Air with a 15" MacBook Pro for around the same price as a Mac Mini (although I would lose the portability of 11").
So I have a few questions - how much difference are the GPUs likely to make for development? Is there any other reason, apart from looks, to get a Pro?
NB I don't play any games or edit any video. My life is boring

The best "Mac" ever created? (Big Mac) Perfect for everyone!
Apart from vegetarians and anyone who's eaten at Five Guys.
:P
Perfect for vegans! Vegan Big Mac!
I fear vegan-friendly cheese and mayonnaise. Also, fuck soya burgers.
I know But if you don't like hamburgers and cheese that's what you get
When will you guys ever stop making me hungry?
I'm vegetarian, not vegan. I fucking love cheese.
Damn you!
That reminds me of the Mega Mac I had in Egypt. It's like a super-sized Big Mac with 4 hamburgers. It was so awesome.
Mac with Quad Core?
Kentucky Fried Mummy was closed, I guess! :-)
I went nuts when my wife did that on honeymoon in NY. All those amazing places to eat and we went somewhere where the food is EXACTLY the same as the UK. Except they don't give two shits about vegetarians, so veggie burgers and spicy bean burgers can GTFO.
Mac Pizza Octa Core?
Have you considered something else than a Mac?
How did this thread get from which Mac to buy... to food porn... I'm so lost and oddly hungry.
Back on topic: A Macbook Pro Retina (in the screen size you personally prefer) will make you very happy. I will just give mine away for a more powerfull one in some years.
McDonalds = LowEndBurger
Sure I remember @jhadley stating somewhere in the past that he pretty much only ever uses a Mac for his main system . Otherwise I'd suggest getting a nice monitor + an Intel NUC. Just got one myself, Haswell i5, 8GB RAM, 120GB SSD + 27" monitor for around £600ish. No graphics card, and would be fairly nice for development work, at a fraction of the cost of an iMac.
It need to begin somewhere! Apple was made as a hamburger!
Yes, unless there is a specific Mac reason I'd recommend to take a look at other manufacturers as well.
