Just got this message :)

Hello,

We are sending out this email today to let all of our clients know about our new product line: OpenVZ based Storage VPS.
Plans range from 100GB all the way to 1000GB of disk space on brand new hardware that we've had built specifically for this product line.
Listed below is an example plan and the specifications for the servers we've deployed:
500GB Disk Space
4 vCPU
2GB Memory
512MB vSwap
4TB Traffic @ 1Gbps Uplink
1 IPv4
Optional IPv6
$7/month
Node Specifications: Dual Hex Core X5650 with 128GB of RAM and 14 x 4TB Enterprise HDD in RAID50 connected with 2 x 1Gbps Uplinks
OpenVZ storage plans are available immediately in Los Angeles and Dallas with Miami to follow within 3 months depending on demand.
We utilize QuadraNet's highly peered, awesome network in both locations.
Private torrenting is allowed on the OpenVZ storage plans, usage of public trackers is strictly prohibited. The OpenVZ storage plans are designed with storage & backups in mind, this means we do not take regular backups of any OpenVZ storage services as we do with other services - Combining a standard plan with a storage plan is recommended.
Please take a moment to read the differences between public torrent trackers and private torrent trackers: http://lifehacker.com/5897095/whats-a-private-bittorrent-tracker-and-why-should-i-use-one
To order any of the OpenVZ Storage plans click through to the following link: https://vpsdime.com/cart.php?gid=2
Please note that we are not able to migrate your current VPS to the storage nodes. You need to order new service.
We're also offering 2 months free for any client (with any service) who switches to annual billing.
We appreciate your business deeply and are working hard to improve our services every single day. Please let us know if you have any suggestions and we'll make them happen!
Regards,
VPSDime

As far as I know, you arent allowed to use backupsy as normal vps. But with vpsdime you can. Futermore you have more ram, but you have to forgo KVM

i see...by the way what do they mean by you can't use public tracker? does it mean we can't even download torrents we get in public?

@serverian can we expect UK/NL/any EU location soon?

  • rds100rds100 Member

@zhuanyi it probably means they don't want to receive too many abuse reports for your IP :)

  • I think maybe this product line could be used as regular VPS, backupsy don't.

Now I wish I could move from Oopsy to VPSDime...

if they have less RAM with lower price, i'll be more happy :P like 100G disk/256M ram with $20/y
if use for private torrenting, no need 1G ram

We'll see the demand and act by it :)

So how's the I/O on these storage nodes?

Then show your support and buy in the US and we'll expand to the EU. Then you can migrate :)

We do not suggest using this product line for production. It's designed for storage and backups. We do not restrict you, of course. We do not take backups of any kind of these products. If you need space for your website, you can simply purchase our 6GB plan and mount this storage VPS as NFS or FUSE and use its space.

No, sorry. We drop the public trackers' IPs on the network.

Will do. Is it possible to get more SSD for the normal 6gb boxes?

Is bandwidth unmetered between vpsdime servers? cause if I do NFS or FUSE the bandwidth is going to be doubled

Unfortunately, not. They are not in the same datacenters.

  • I'm incredibly impressed with the performance of these servers (assuming empty host). Making me want to try out some other VPS Dime products.

    Bandwidth rate: 77.6 MB/second
