What location should BeastVM take next

FlorisFloris Member
edited April 2014 in General

BeastVM is seeing more and more demand coming for our services and we want to expand to Europe aswell, so, instead of directly going with OVH's Roubaix DC we wanted to ask you guys what DC we should take.

In addition, any other location outside of the OVH DC's may be posted underneath if proper DDoS protection is availible.

Kind Regards,
Floris

  • You should add an option for "it doesn't matter". Really, it's all in France, who is going to pick up the map and lookup exactly where each one of these cities is? And why would it matter?

  • I would like to see more Asian locations

Maybe latency related or something, and for info:

Strasbourg is near the german border,

Roubaix is near the belgium border,

Gravelines is near the coast of France & England.

    I've corrected the poll.

What's the latency difference between locations, 2ms?

Then suggest another location below, like I stated:

You are right, but here from Germany you get better speeds/pings to Roubaix^^

Same here in NL, best pings/speeds from Roubaix.

  • Anywhere EU :D

These are pings from Netherlands (Ramnode).
Far from 50ms, the difference is minimal. So IMHO there's no point in expanding to another location in France unless you only target customers in France.

We are currently in Canada, not in France, that's why we're expanding to their french DC's aswell.

Oh sorry for misinterpretation, I thought you were already in France.

My pings were from my home location (South-Holland) to Their DC's so, that meight be the difference.

    US in blacklotus

include with more than 10gb/s ddos protection

Otherwise NL is perfect too ( With DDos protection )

That's a US location, we have choosen to avoid the USA at all costs, unless we can make sure there will be 2 seperate legal entity's. A LLC costs almost nothing, but we've choosen to wait till we can afford a S.á.r.l in Luxembourg, Enchancing our ability to prevent US rules and spying.

    (A s.á.r.l costs ~$15.000-20.000)

Asia definitely ... Both India and Singapore lacks decent LEBs.

With DDoS protection? That sounds difficult.

Switzerland would be the best choice IMO if you want to get a foot in EU.

Luxembourg can be nice too btw, not too many offers there...

There is already so many host with OVH FR...

    Not here on LEB/LET.

We want to get foot into the ground before expanding to those locations, we prefer to provide services with DDoS protection/mitigation, this will require major investments, but we're willing to do these in the future, so we can provide these services in Luxembourg or Switzerland, Iceland, or whatever country.

Luxembourg is a very neutral, and good country, we've made our plans to register there, as there are véry good privacy protection laws and such in Luxembourg. It meight seem odd to you, but it's better to be safe then sorry.

I'm not sure what your question is... You quoted the part about the s.á.r.l and yes, we're going to have DDoS protection on future locations aswell.
