What OS do you use on your servers?

  • I choose Ubuntu because they tend to have more up-to-date packages. With 13.10, I get a 3.11 kernel, Xen 4.3, and relatively modern versions of other packages that I use on a regular basis.

CentOS or Debian, usually Debian on mini vps. One day I'd like to try Arch for server.

I'm curious about the choice of Ubuntu for server as well. Are there any performance advantages or is it mainly a matter of newer/more packages?

Centos or Debian depending on what I want to run. Also windows just because I like RDP xD

Well, by proxy "newer" packages indicates better packages. It has a newer version of GCC, which is more capable of safely optimizing binaries for use.

  • I build my own distro from Gentoo.

I use mostly Centmin Mod, and when that doesn't quite fit Debian.

Debian and Windows Server 2012 R2

CentOS is real nice, but me and my team are faster on Debian/ubuntu so we use it on all new hosts.

    Que es Damn Small Linux?

  • Ubuntu, because it was what I taught myself Linux on and haven't found any need to switch since.

  • The smallest usable Linux distro I know of. (http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/)
