  • Why? The database and /usr/local/solusvm/includes/solusvm.conf should be enough.

  • Life would be much easier if it was a VM.

There's no reason why it can't be.

  • i'm also hosted it in a OpenVZ :)

Exactly, which makes it easier. He can just backup the VM though normal methods such as a snap or full backup.

  • Sync both servers via DRBD at block level. So you can easily switch on a failure.
Please note, DRBD not exchange a backup solution :)

Replication of a filesystem is a good idea. Only issue is MySQL which runs as a service doesn't write to disk right away. You can get a corrupt database if you don't stop the service before switchover.

  • @MassNodes DRBD is not at filesystem level, it is on block level. The filesystem is on top of the block layer. Please do a research what DRBD is..

Yes, I'm not sure why I said filesystem. Regardless MySQL dosn't write to disk right away. Using MySQL on top of a HA solution might cause issues in case of a switchover. If it's going to be used as a backup solution then downing the services during the backup window might work fine.

There is no problem with DRBD and MySQL..Oracle already certified DRBD with MySQL: https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/ha-drbd.html

Please do a research how DRBD works and how MySQL HA solutions work, then it should be clear. You don't want two active MySQL process without any communication on the same block device. But that's are stupid idea on the same node too..One process at the same time at one block device.
