What is your uptime on your desktop?

What's your uptime on your desktop or laptop? (No Servers allowed)

For those who are on Windows like me, enter the command "systeminfo" from the cmd prompt

For those who are on Macintosh OSX or Linux - enter the command "uptime" in terminal

Here's mine:

System Up Time: 76 Days, 23 Hours, 6 Minutes, 49 Seconds

On my notebook running Windows XP professional (but the actual uptime could be 2 months old as it's hibernated when I'm sleeping/not using it):

    19 Days, 0 Hours, 58 Minutes, 27 Seconds

Since I live in a high-tax country and the costs for enegery are additionally pretty high because of green energy, I switch my desktop off whenever I don't use it. :-)

  • 20:48:43 up 2:14, 5 users, load average: 0.09, 0.03, 0.01

Of course i shutdown my laptop when i don't use it.

It's not even on! Although I am away from home at the moment I usually turn my computer off because it is really loud (gfx card's fan is kinda messed up) and I have no need for it to be on and unnecessarily wasting power. It can boot up fast enough for me. Also with the stock Intel cooler it gets very hot. To be honest I don't even keep my home server on, only when I want it.

    So...none of you patch?

My uptime on my Windows desktop is awful - and deservedly so, as I keep it up to date.

Add that up for all the people that do that and you have a number of wasted energy that is quite big. For example, in the EU the energy that is wasted because of sleep mode is the whole amount of energy that Sweden uses actively within one year. This is also why in the EU sleep mode must not use more than 1 Watt and from 2014 on only .5 Watt (meaning for computers: only ACPI S5 is allowed).

(VirtualBox loves to panic my desktop. Woot.)

I don't like rebooting, I need quick access to the internet all the time.

    Original Install Date: 02/04/2012, 18:15:32
System Up Time: 7 Days, 5 Hours, 13 Minutes, 11 Seconds

  • Like I said, I would leave it on 2/7 IF it was not a noisy beast.

  • edited April 2012

    $ uptime
    23:22 up 33 days

I'm sorta cheating though. I use a Mac and just close the lid to put it in sleep mode.... :P

  • 20:27:52 up 24 days, 3:10, 3 users, load average: 0.04, 0.03, 0.00

It's wood-fired so I have to shutdown each month to clean out the flues. Green though.

    C:\Documents and Settings\admin>Systeminfo | Find "Up Time"

System Up Time: 49 Days, 9 Hours, 23 Minutes, 57 Seconds

Almost 50 days on good ole win XP I am typing now.

  • My Netbook: jeffrey@crunchbang up 5 days, 2:42 3 users, load average: 1.19, 0.94, 0.90

  • root@debian:~# uptime
     00:07:17 up 8 days, 10:48, 3 users, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00

That's my old laptop that sits around torrenting stuff. Severely underclocked/undervolted for energy efficiency :3

  • About 3 hours atm. You know how Windows is.
