still no irc?
The whole purpose of our IRC rule is to prevent DDoS attacks, as you know, there's high level of risk of DDoS from IRC generally, if you're looking to host an IRC bouncer, that would be fine.
If you're 100% confident that you will not be DDoSed from running IRC if this is for development or personal use then there shouldn't be a problem. We won't suspend a VPS for IRC just because we see a IRC process running, we suspend once our team starts to notice your IRC interrupt other VPS neighbors, generally from DDoS attacks, etc.
I dont get why people still consider IRC a fast way of getting DDoSed.
Too much time on EF.
Why do you charge 19$ on cPanel? You can get even external licences for 15$/month...
for profit?
They heard "something" decade or more ago :P
You can order the VPS without a control panel and purchase cPanel elsewhere. We can install cPanel for you for free regardless if you choose to receive the license with us or not
Regarding IRC as I mentioned if you're 100% confident that you will not be attacked then you may run it on our VPS.
@FTN_Kevin
Any speedtests from one of your boxes?
The root.lu test file has always been a little suckish from my location (UK), I'd just like to know if it's just an overloaded test server
Hi @ElliotJ,
Sure - for security reasons the test IP/files given were directly from the datacenter's we use so its very possible the test server might be overloaded.
I'll be happy to send you a PM with the test IP/file on one of our own nodes.
Best,
Kevin
@FTN_Kevin just send over a link to a test file.
It maxed out my 30mbit connection in the UK within seconds, comparatively, the datacenter's own only managed 2mbit.
Cheers!
I always manage to max out my 50Mbit connection on my root.lu dedicated server, I'm on the same ISP as you, odd.
I spoke with the root.lu guys. They said the speedtest server is shared with other services running on that same server, hence not delivering good results.
They are working on getting a new speedtest server up. In the meantime, if anyone wants a 100MB test from one of our own nodes feel free to request one by PMing me or posting here. As Elliot said, he was able to max out his connection with our own speedtest file.
Thanks!
A good offer. But 40GB HDD=(.... It is not enough for me = (
