Hostigation down? My VPS was down, and when I visit their website I get this error

AWBS License Error: Unable to validate license.
Please contact the software vendor.

but I still can log in to billing. Just send support ticket and we'll see what's going on

Let's bet which dot-name will collapse first ;)

I just get this email :
    Announcements

    http://hostigation.com/billing/announcements.php?id=46

Let's bet which dot-name will collapse first ;)

  • Seems my backup node is back!

  • OVZ02 still down TT

  • maxexcloo said: One of my servers is down... http://test.excloo.com/status/

Wow, that is really nice! ... I want -_-"

  • zidit said: OVZ02 still down TT

I see this is a problem since my nagios instance is on ovz02 as well, so it was unable to page me overnight it was down. I did move the down nodes to my old UPS' that I had yet to take out of the racks, but of course the data center is also working on doing the work of actually replacing the batteries now too in their UPS for the colo area.

And to top it all off that nasty AWBS error since I cancelled the license for it last week, I had paid it all year after migrating to WHMCS, and though why, now I know. I put a dirty php redirect to the WHMCS landing page in for now. I am no good at web design, and have had a dozen offers to redesign the site, nobody had ever come through, but maxexcloo is actully doing some work and has make real progress on a new site, so a pat on the back for him is in order, but he has school work to do currently, and needs to focus on that.

ovz02 is currently on pass 1D of an fsck, which has taken 90 minutes I think.

If you are desperate, submit a ticket and I can restore a backup from last weekend to ovz01 or ovz03 or to Los Angeles for that matter

Pretty sure I jinxed everything with my comment here

And the node ovz02 has restarted and containers are starting up. Sorry about this downtime, need to figure out a better solution for where I put nagios.

Looking at the source code, the stats are being driven by piwik.

    http://piwik.org

Didn't know that it could do server stats as well.

GNU Affero? Never heard of that one before:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affero_General_Public_License

Interesting read. As I read it, it says that you have to release instead of GPL's if you release, you have to include the source code.

edit: Some of the biggies with open source use the loophole quite often.

    reedit: Also http://www.gnu.org/licenses/why-affero-gpl.html

  • @Kuro Not much in the way of instructions for the status bit, I presume I have to somehow add the servers I want to monitor into the servers.db?

It will be done, don't you worry!

  • was back up a few hours back now its down again

  • Looks like a series of unfortunate events. While the downtime is frustrating, I appreciate the frequent communications on the situation. Play-by-play is available at:

Just think. Tomorrow he'll have fresh UPS batteries, new power lines, and newly posted "Do Not Cut" signs! Nothing but uptime coming his way!

  • LongShot said: newly posted "Do Not Cut" signs!

I only wish it was that easy. We are having a new roof put on the building and of 25,000sq ft, he drilled a hole in the 1 sq inch that could cause the damage he did. It's been repaired, the guys are working away at installing the batteries, but I doubt they finish today, and all nodes are up and backup VPS containers are starting.

I really think that roofer should buy a lottery ticket tonight for his luck in not killing himself should give him great odds.

  • Normally construction companies use architectural drawings to check before work. Must be different in other countries. ^-^

La parole nous a été donnée pour déguiser notre pensée.

  • Yes. I and my fellow North Carolinians will tell you that that South Carolina is indeed another country.

  • I have a backup VPS and I'm waiting now for it to come up. But I don't mind the downtime. I wouldn't have missed this epic adventure for anything :)

    Tomorrow is another day....

Hostigation web site reports Backup is restored. Mine is up and running with no data loss. All in all, good job!

To put this experience in perspective, NordicVPS is still trying to bill me for the $15/year plan I canceled after suffering through weeks of downtime....

Since you walked 30 miles of them to get that laptop, you damn well know they are!

Yeah, I use it for anything I release now which is networked (which hasn't been much recently... sigh) - it's a good "fix" in my opinion.

You walked 30 miles to get a laptop? o_O

    Postgres

  • Yup, had little choice. Tried to get a replacement through some of the dot coms that I do some work for but didn't have much luck.

The annoying part about this is right after I picked it up from Tim, one of the local churches that I help out at had 38 of them donated to them. I stood there and begged the pastor for one but they wanted to donate them to "those in need". Guess I wasn't needy enough.

Most of the folks who got them sold them right away for whatever they could get for them. Except for the homeless lady who sits in one of the local library branches that I use. She sits there all day and panhandles in the branch. When she's not, she's on youtube singing along with the country western videos. Rather loudly.

  • Another power outage today? Solus and kvm02 are down.

Just guessing what's happening in SC:

    (1) Primary power lost when long extension cord cut at North Carolina border.

    (2) Backup system down when jumper cables to rusting car on cinder blocks came loose.

  • @iKocka Thank you

  • I'm seeing some responses to my pings so it might be a network related issue.

  • Back online! :)
