IPv6 Only Plan $1/pm - What do you guys think?

Hello,

I have seen a few people requesting IPv6 Only VPS's recently.

I decided to look into it and found that is isn't something that is easy but I personally wouldn't call it hard.

I am currently in the search for a dedicated server with a lot of IPv6 Addresses - 2 x /48 would be fine.

I'd like to provide services on an annual basis but to start I will be providing monthly services as it brings less risk.

I plan on having one plan:

  • 1 CPU Core
  • 128MB RAM
  • 128MB vSwap
  • 10GB Disk Space
  • Unmetered Bandwidth
  • 16 x IPv6
  • EU
  • $1/pm

I'll be testing Feathur but will probably use SolusVM.

Please complete the poll so I know wether people would buy it.

Also please comment with any ideas or tips.

To expensive, what about 8$ per Year?

You will need to at least consider NAT IPv4 as well at the very least on request, I run lowendspirit which does the same as this for €3.00 p/year but also comes with Nat IPv4 and I can tell you without any doubt if it was IPv6 only I would not have had 80% of the people sign up that did.

  • I wouldn't really have an easy/simple way to connect. You need to remember that a majority of people don't have ipv6 at home and I would buy the service from the person with ipv4 first.

There are some VPSes for about $1/month that do provide IPv4 as well -- and those are even from established reputable providers too. Looking at IPv6-only, your competitor here is LowEndSpirit, which provides the same as you described for just 3 EUR/year. Hence, "sorry, but I don't think this is going to work."

  • NAT IPv4 - Will be included.

Then i would say, it depens on location. Would it be awesome location outside US/EU sure for 12$ per year.

Cool well if you get it up and running I will put it up on the LES site for you as long as it is not in a location that is already covered (Newcastle UK, Rotterdam NL, Milan IT) and you come to your senses with the price :)

  • Yes if you do a /64 per VPS.

  • @infinity580 - @Amthonysmith

    I was thinking of France.

we have atm a 8$ deal on LEB, Ipv6 only and Nat in France.

So you need to do something special to sell it for 12$ year.

  • @Infinity580 - Can't seem to find it on LEB. You have a link?

You could put it behind CloudFlare

  • @PcJamesy - You could also use an IPv6 Tunnel.

@Infinity580 - Hmm, I actually saw that, didn't pay attention to the price though.

I was considering $0.50/pm but minus PayPal fees that leaves me with $0.19 per VPS.

    I thought about $0.75 but that's $9/yr

    what about prepay 6Months?

I think the idea is to bill annually and not monthly.

  • @Virtovo - @Infinity580

I'd prefer to bill annually but there is a risk involved then.

What if something was to go wrong, I'd have to refund all of those clients. (Probably through PayPal claims)

  • I'd want to offer monthly for a month or two so that I can build a client base and know that people are actually going to buy it then I'd add annual knowing that I'll get clients.

  • Consider Bitcoin payment in that case on month to month?

  • NeoonNeoon Community Contributor, Veteran

yeah bitcoin has only 1% fee and no setup free gateway.

  • @Virtovo - @Infinity580

I like the idea but the price of Bitcoin is too floppy.

Also most people would like to pay with PayPal as they get more security.

Anyway, I'll do my maths and work everything out and let you know what the options are.

    I'll still accept suggestions.

  • If you must accept paypal, be sure to accept it as a micro-transaction.

You may find quarterly payments will get you to the right price point.

Just worked it out with Micropayments and things look a lot better.

Anyway I'll let you guys know. :D

    Thanks for the tips.

Surely a /64 is enough? Do you really expect to need more than 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 ip's?

  • @sc754

/64 is enought but people may want more IP's

CF is not working with IPv6-Only. You'll need proper IPv4.

  • I have a vps with ipv6 only, and works perfectly with cloudflare as reverse proxy.
simply point AAAA record to your vps ipv6, and cloudflare will do the rest automagically. :)
