So what vps comes with a dedicated cpu?

I been browsing around the place and I can never find a proper answer. All I want to know is what vps (openvz, xen, kvm) have a dedicated cpu? And by dedicated I mean. I want to run it at 100% and not bug others. That's what a dedicated cpu should do correct? I want to host a little game server but I don't want to bug others on the node. From what I've read, Xen and KVM are dedicated and wont bug the others?

I have a openvz from ramnode and I use very little cpu(mumble server), I know I shouldn't run a game server because it's going to bug others, that's why I am asking.

Can someone please clarify this for me. So I can buy a vps :D

Thanks

You can run a TF2 MvM server + mumble on ramnode without exceeding the 0.9 load limit - if you want, I can send you CPU graphs to prove it :D I'm on a 1GB VPS btw.

Almost all VPS's are giving you a fair share of CPU, doesn't matter if its Xen, KVM, or OpenVZ.

  • @drserver can do this.

  • I was under the impression that xen could only use a full core and not shared :/
eg 16 core server would have 16 xen vps's.

Hey stellaev if you don't mind sending a picture of it that would be nice.

    ^ This. Cool guy too.

  • I also recommend ^^

  • We do offer dedicated CPU models (where you are pinned to your own cores, and cgroups specify no other VPS is allowed to pin on those cores, even through migrations); but that's a service we offer just outside of the $7 limit here.

We offer it for 1024MB at $6.49 (with 1 dedicated CPU core), but most times people don't need the CPU on such small plans, and run into other issues (such as the I/O contention from HDDs in RAID10...)

  • Anything in Europe? I don't personally require a VPS with a dedicated CPU core at the moment, but I anticipate I might in the near future and it'd be good to know who to turn to when the need arises.

  • I don't mind if it cost more then 7$, I just posted on here because I find people more helpful and friendly, haha

I'll check out those servers, I am just looking to have something I can use 100% of the core and not get kicked out :D

  • We don't kick people out for using 100% of the core, as we have migrations and other systems tuned on the host machines to move spiking CPU usage (temporarily) to vacant cores while they settle down.

We only suspend a server (we try to warn first) if they have been exhibiting abnormally high (burstable CPU, 100%>) for the last six hours or more.

  • Well since I already made a thread, can someone tell me what color cpu usage I should be looking at?

There are 3 and I shouldn't go over 0.9 for a long time or else I get in trouble :D

You probably want to take a look at 15 minutes

FYI, heres a screenshot of what loads actually look like on a ramnode tf2 server

And the sarcasm after they found about what I used in bandwidth....

    TF2 MvM (6)

CPU usage is probably equal to a PvP server due to robot generation.

@Hailz Check out www.nfoservers.com. Game server hosting is what they specialize in and they're an absolutely fantastic host. I have 3 VPS with them at the moment and absolutely zero complaints (my 1-year with them is coming up later this month).

They are a tad out of LEB budget though but if you're willing to spend a bit extra...

We do have plenty of people running gameservers without issue, just so you know.

  • You could also get a cheap Dedi server and have ALL the CPU ALL to yourself.

2nd is for 35 USD (for 3 months. 11.66 USD per month) 3 GB RAM, 20 GB of pure SSD Disk, 1TB @ 1gbps, Dedicated h/t core of Xeon L5639

In booth plans you can run your core 100% 24/7

  • I'm not sure you can run the CPU at 100% and not bug others on the server, unless you've bought every slice of the server

No more of the 2# option in stock?

    @drserver I guess there is another a mistypo in http://abusivecores.com ;-) "$35 per quater"

  • Anyone planning to make abusivedisks.com?

  • NateN34NateN34 Member
    edited December 2013

NFOservers.com has that. They give you an "HT Core".

The higher up plans you go, the more "HT Cores" you get. So, you could have up to 2 full cores and use it 100%, if you wanted to.
